Excellent recipes
By following the recipes in the book I managed to halve my uric acid count in 2 months. Also useful for people with diabetes as most recipes are also diabetic friendly. 90% of my meals are now made using this book.

Good information about the condition
I dislike the fact that the recipes are all done in 'cups'. I find this method totally confusing. LIkewise, the recipes are often for 4 or 6 people. i live alone and was looking for a book which would give me ideas for solo cooking

~~ Help to ease and/or manage your gout ~~
Did you know that despite being an ancient disease, "gout is on the rise globally, with a direct correlation to the prevailing increases in obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease." The cause? "..... unhealthy lifestyle changes that include less exercise and 24/7 access to processed foods." There is NO cure for gout HOWEVER you can learn to manage it.What exactly is gout? Chapter 1 will tell you. What foods are healthy foods? Which ones should you avoid? All these questions and more will be answered. There are four weeks of meal plans provided including shopping lists. The recipes are marked:Gluten Free * Kidney Friendly * Diabetes Friendly * Vegan or VegetarianThe recipe sections are:Breakfast * Soups, Salads and Sandwiches * Meatless Mains * Poultry * Beef, Pork and Lamb * Fish and Seafood * Dessert * Staples, Dressings and CondimentsThe recipes are easy to read. Many of the recipes call for low-sodium vegetable broth rather than using fresh/dried ingredients to make your own.The 'Staples, Dressings and Condiments' section is VERY useful and one you will likely refer to again and again when making the recipes included in this book. At the end of the book you will find measurement conversion charts which are VERY useful as this book is written for the American market. Following this you will find references, resources, recipe index and then an ingredient index. What this is, is a list to make looking up a specific ingredient contained in a recipe much easier. Say you are looking to cook with carrots. Just head to 'C' and then 'Carrots' and you will find all the recipes containing carrots in one helpful list.I do not have gout but found this book interesting and can see how it would be helpful and educational. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. That has not influenced my review with the thoughts and opinions above being my own. Thanks, Liz

this book is written by someone who doesn't get gout...
tomatoes trigger my gout massivly, beans and lentils in moderation.... I was hoping for a recipe book to reduce flare ups not for maintainance.... gout is mainly about lifestyle, poor diet, lack of exercise, too much stress...... I doubt that your average gout sufferer will have the drive or inclination to try more than a couple of these recipes, they are expensive and depending where you shop not easily available in the supermarket, yes I should shop in the healthfood shop, but I wourk all the time and cooking is about conveinience... I'll give them a go but this will blow my shopping budget
