Shakes the slab of my house!
Holy smokes, this thing rumbles! I just got it yesterday and dragged it into the living room and had it swapped out with my old Sony 100w, 8 inch sub in all of about 15 minutes. I haven't even got this thing broke in yet and it's all out bustin' with bass. I'm afraid to turn it up all the way just to see what'll do maxed out because even just 3/4 volume has me worried I'll bother the neighbors. And I live in a 1500 sq ft house on a 1/4 acre lot. I can't imagine ever, never trying to use this thing in an apartment. I rented the new King Kong movie and cranked it up when Kong was stomping around, knocking helicopters out of the sky. I swear I felt the concrete slab of my house shake! It's awesome!!The instructions that come with it are very well written and easy to understand. There are a plethora of connections and switches on the back of the sub to customize to any number of home entertainment setups. The instructions give a great guide on how to setup the sub's volume, cross over, phase switch, and where to place it in your home for the desired level of bass. I love bass and I found it worked best when I turned it sideways so that the horn on the side was blasting straight at me :-DOne thing I will say is that this sub will probably work best with some bookshelf speakers or tower speakers that have a 4"-6.5" midrange woofer. The Sony satellite surround speakers I have just can't keep up with this. There is a noticeable frequency bump as it sweeps down through the 100 hertz range where this thing dominates. The instructions that came with the sub said to start the crossover at 120Hz for small satellites and then slowly bump it up from there till you get a nice mesh. At 120Hz there was a noticeable gap and I ended up right at 160Hz where things meshed about as well as I could get them. I did get a fuller bass sound if I just pegged the crossover all the way up to 180Hz but it just totally killed the stereo field of my surrounds. So, I just have to live with a little bit of a diminished response from certain bass guitars parts of rock music. But whenever I crank up some funk or a rollicking southern bass beat then you feel those bass licks thumping in the chest. I've got some Mica 4" two-ways on order and can't wait to get this setup just totally rounded out from top to bottom. Big thumbs up on this sub.

Amazing value for a great sound
My big and costly Sub died suddenly and the new plate amplifier would cost an arm and a leg. This was a better deal. Read the reviews and went for it. Got it in 48 hours and set it up right away and did the calibration. Wow! Better than the big-name Sub it replaced. It is seamless with music and killer with low frequency special effects. NOT for apartment dwellers unless you want it to live up to its name. The black cover hides the red cone, so it you leave it in place it looks like any sub-woofer.Last night we watched a film and at one point I during an exciting scene I became aware of the bass in the music thumping away incredibly deep and strong. Subtle, yet powerfully effective. Only noticed because I was aware of the new sub. Guests just watched the film and accepted the amazing music and effects. Set it to music that you like so it sounds right, then it will not intrude during films except to do what the Director wanted to appear in the audio tracks. Have had it a month and cannot tell about longevity, but I learned that subs have a shorter lifespan than other speakers and plate amps cannot usually be repaired. This was a great choice for me.

Stopped working in less than a year
I bought this 10 months ago, worked fine, sounded decent, now it's dead, the fuse appears intact but no light, no sound.

Good Booms For The Bucks
When I was assembling my home theatre, I purchased a highly regarded but under powered and inexpensive subwoofer. It did alright, but it never really got as deep as I wanted, and there were times it seemed almost "not there." I did some more research and came to the conclusion that the original sub was underpowered for the size of my room, which really is not all that large. More research led me to the Rtr-EV1200. I am now in a very mellow place subwoofer wise. The RtR-EV1200 has all the power I need. When things need to get noisy, they do so effortlessly. When a scene in a movie or a passage of music calls for quiter background bass, it is there with plenty of room to spare. I am not a musician, so I cannot spout the arcane words that would impress you with my vast background in field. All I can really say is that this subwoofer seems very solid and is at a nice price point. It handles the demands made on it both by music of all types and by movies of all types. I am extremely pleased with what I got for my money. If it works at the current level for the next five or six years, I will consider the purchase to have been absolutely a great one. When you are shopping for a quality subwoofer that will not break the back, look into this one. Note: I kept this item hooked up for twelve years. It never failed me.
