One of my favorite types of design
Short and sweet (for a change), I simply love the designs on this book. Many of them remind me of Jacobean style designs, which are my absolute all-time favorite. It doesn't matter a whit whether I do one, two, ten, or not a single design in the book, I enjoy just looking at it. And many of the designs are actually adaptable for other crafts. Have you ever done quilling using embroidery designs? You should try it. How about paper embroidery? Actually, using card stock is better since it's sturdier, but for an unusual design for a special card (think metallic colors for Christmas) it is hard to beat.

Good book for repeat pattern boarders
This publication contains a collection of highly detailed and artfully hand drawn designs of boarders and motifs in black and white print. No color notations or embroidery instructions included. Good book for repeat pattern boarders, some cut-work and realistic floral and leave patterns and bouquets. The basket images can be enlarged for a large scale work. A very good reference book.

good book for authentic crewel designs
I wanted a book with authentic crewel designs for some pockets I am embroidering and found something here that worked perfectly. It is just line drawings that you can interpret. It gives no suggestions about stitches to use or colors.

Repetitive but useful
A lot of repetitive designs so you will be looking for more difference between the designs themselves, but there is good border-work in there. Great of you want designs for borders, useless if you want decorative designs to be the center of attention.

Good source of borders
This book has a wide variety of borders suitable for linens and hand towels and for use in hand embroidery. There are a good variety of sizes, shapes, motifs, and density to satisfy many needs. Inking in book dense enough to copy on light weight fabrics, but will require retracing for linen weight fabrics. I would highly recommend this book for the hand embroiderer interested in early American and Victorian embroidery.

Beautiful!
I thought I was getting a PDF document and have ordered so many things in the last couple of months I was pleasantly suprised when I received the book itself! I love it, love it, love it.

Simple outline embroidery designs
Simple outline embroidery designs leave so much room for creative interpretations. Great resource for embroiderers. Love that it is a reprint from an original old book.
