J.A. Henckels International Handheld Knife Sharpener

I was suspicious of this sharpener, but thought that Henckels would probably not sell something that damages their knives. I have now used one for 5 years and another for a couple and they work great keeping knives sharp

Typically I only write reviews for products I've bought that have really worked well. This is one of those products. I've had a set of high quality Cutco knives for years, and they needed to be sharpened. I didn't want send them off to be sharpened by Cutco, and the Cutco knife sharpener sold on Amazon is quite expensive. So I took a chance on this relatively inexpensive Henckels, and I couldn't be more pleased. It quickly restored the edge on the Cutco knives, they are as sharp as the day I got them, and the edge is clean.

We have one of those old school sharpeners that sits in the garage collecting dust. Every year or so I complain about my knives being dull and in the past nothing changed. We talked about getting our 30 year old cutko knife set sent in to be sharpened but, that’s work. And no knives! Soooo, I purchased the large chefs knife from this brand and really liked it. A lot. Had to learn knife skills because I haven’t had a sharp knife in almost 29 years. Anyway, a few months in the blade got a weird knick in it, and they replaced it immediately. If I’m wearing thick cooking gloves I can actually use the original when I realize my knife is sharp and hand the other over to my husband to sharpen. I keep this cute little sharpener in my kitchen. Within 5 minutes I’ve got a sharp knife again. He’s still learning how to best angle it for optimal blade placement but as he gets better the knife comes back to me more and more sharp. The old wheel style one took a lot more work and worse of all, done wrong you’ve ruined a good knife. This is more dummy safe. Not that I’m gonna try using it, when my husband is willing and I am probably the one person who could screw it up.I got my in October 2024 for $12 so it was a no brainer. If it’s on sale again I’m going to get a second one so he has one in his upstairs office.If you’re nervous I recommend that you start with your least expensive knife. He started with the one with the knick in it as he learned how it works. The price shocked me. It’s something I’d expect to be double if not triple. Hubs makes it look really easy and says the same. It’s easy. Guys and their one word answers (sigh). It’s super compact and tiny, would probably fit in my knife drawer. I can’t speak to its durability as we’re 50 and typically don’t tend to drop things or mistreat them but if my 24 year old gets his hands on it and breaks it (not joking) I’ll be sure to update the review. So far I’m a pretty happy Nonna

Not quiet as good as heavy metal an sharpener steel in but for price and easy use it’s a great tool for elders n women n men

Good for the money. It works well and sharpens our knives. My husband says it is easy to use.

Yes, I have the traditional knife sharpener, just like my parents had. It seemed to take forever to get just the right sharpness when they used their's. Not with this sharpener! I just use both sides of it, taking 5 - 10 passes on each side and the blade is so sharp, it cuts cleanly, quickly, and precisely. I'm so happy with it. Now I'm cutting fruits and vegetables in half the time it used to take me, and with a really sharp blade! No more tugging and tearing on anything. Just nice clean cuts.

Bought this to replace a much cheaper EdgeCraft sharpener. I have all Henckels knives, which I love. Unfortunately, they did not sharpen as well with the Henckels tool. Followed the instructions that said up to 20 times on the Coarse side and 6 times on the Fine side - not impressed. I went back to my EdgeCraft.

Purchased this to replace a mediocre sharpener we've had in the past. It's amazing at sharpening both kitchen knives and my EDC pocket knife (it's a beater). Very easy to use and stays stable on the counter when sharpening. Easy to store away in a drawer as well when not in use - relatively compact. Our knives are back to feeling like new.
