Thanks for your question! As the other commenters mentioned: you sew three sides and the purse's flap - the 4th side is open but covered by the flap.

It does not have a strap, but you can attach one.

Q: Has anyone done this with a 4 yr old?

Yes!! I bought this for my four year old and my six year old. You can see together. The kit makes it easy to follow.

Q: What are the sizes of individual purses? They look petite.

The rounded purses are approximately 5.25" W x 4" H. The rectangular shaped purses are about 4.5" W x 4" H.
