Should look better than it does, but it's okay
This really has the feel of a lower quality item than it is. I have other denix items which feel "better" and less fragile. The trigger sticks, and the screws really, really loosen (an issue common to Denix recreations). Overall, the gun needs a bit more weight in the grip to feel "correct", but it's still a nifty item to have. The scroll work is excellent.

Great replica gun, as rated by an old west firearms enthusiast
I am a member of the Single Action Shooting Society, SASS #99866. As such, I participate several times a month in cowboy action shooting competitions. I own several fully functioning and firing old west replica firearms. These include a Rossi '92 (remake of the Winchester '92, .45 long colt rifle), four 1873 peacemakers (two Piettas and two Ubertis). The Piettas are .357 and the Ubertis are .45 LC. I also own three period 12 gauge shotguns (a Stoeger coach gun, a Stevens side by side, and an 1897 Winchester remake). I am very familiar with the Winchester '73 and '66 rifles. I have shot both Uberti remakes of both in competiton. I have a Winchester '73 rifle on special order purchase currently and am picking up a Liberty, external hammer, 12 gauge coach gun next week. Outside of these guns, I enjoy reading and studying about old west firearms as a past time. I fancy myself to be fairly well versed in old west firearms.Having said all that, I am VERY impressed with this replica gun. I bought it to wear as part of my costume for our State Championship SASS banquet. My shooting alias is cavalry affiliated. I loved having the gun as a prop to complete my banquet attire. I am now going to keep it for future costume events and display it in my study. It is a high quality reproduction. The "museum quality" claim in the advertisement is not far off in my opinion. The weight and feel of the gun is realistic. I like that the cylinder rotates freely on 1/2 cock, accurately clicking into place at each percussion cap application position. The scroll work is very realistic. The charging rod is functional and sturdy. The trigger pull is correct and releases the hammer from the fully cocked position. The cylinder moves appropriately, advancing positions when replicating the function of firing. The plastic handle grips are a good ivory simulation, and I really like the 3D detail of the eagle with scroll and shield on the right grip. The grip checkering is also nice. One last nice detail is the brass colored back straps and trigger guard (which seems to be period correct). As I understand it, many of the confederate revolvers of this period were made with brass receivers. This one seems to better replicate a Union/Federal firearm, which also suits my purpose.

Nice look
Looks amazing. Sturdiness is definitely not as good as I hoped but I only display it so it does fine for that.

nice show piece
The Denix 1851 Engraved Navy Revolver is a Great replica, and looks and feels great. It is a nice show piece and a good compliment to my replica western gun collection, without having to spend hundreds for an original.

Crappy junk pistol. Beware!
Junk! First one broke on day received. Replacement doesn't rotate cylinder properly for firing. I would never buy again. Feel cheated. Way to much money for junk like this; not even a good toy. Will never buy again! Other reviewers must not know what quality is!

Beautiful looking pistol
Great weight, solidly built, and it has great action. The engraving is sharp and detailed. My only gripe is the handle is plastic, and has kind of a cheap feel. I think they were going for an ivory look, so wood was out of the question.
