Q: Would you recommend sizing up to account for bow rails? My 17-foot boat has bow rails that are about 2 feet high.

I would definitely size up for the bow rails. I sized up for my swim tab since it is gelcoated the same color scheme as the boat and I didn't want it to suffer exposure. The only real drawback to upsizing is that the excess hangs down and almost overlaps under the boat. The elastic cords in the seams makes this a not terrible thing since you can sinch them up pretty tight. It makes it a little difficult the first couple of times getting things sinched/sized correctly, but after that it is a good cover with excellent water repelling for the first season/winter at least. I scotchguarded it last fall after giving it a good scrub and it held up well over the winter. If you use a center post/lift to give it shape for water run-off, upsizing is almost a must.

Q: Could I make this go over a motor on a 12’ porta bote with a small engine on it?

Yes I believe you could as I found it to be to large for my needs. Might just be to large for your’s as well.

Q: Will this cover fit over the back of a 16ft boat including the motor?

We are ensure the cover will fit the 14'-16' long beam width up to 76", but including the motor will be a little tight, you can buy one and try, if it can't cover the motor, we also sell the motor cover.
