Get the right tool first time!
Like many before me, I initially chose a budget tool unaware of the different types of flare, thinking that tool would do the job..how wrong was I!That tool was supposed to do both single and double flares, which are the female type, and it barely managed to do a wonky single. Job done and the new copper lines were ok but the original metal lines I was joining onto had a leak I couldn’t fully stop. After a little more research I realised I needed a tool that did bubble flares (male version) which is the type used on the majority of European vehicle brake lines. Frustrated and lesson learned, I decided to invest in a decent tool, and this one is certainly that. It’s small size and design makes it easy to use on the vehicle and produced flares identical to the original flares on the car. Not trusting the flares already made I decided to redo all of them, and not a drip to be found.Remember, you get what you pay for, and when working on safety critical braking system it’s really worth investing in the right kit. Very happy with this superb tool, highly recommend

Buy this one, not that cheap eBay one
Like a lot of others, I bought a cheap kit elsewhere which was good for copper brake pipe, but it could not flare the OEM steel pipe at all. This tool is really easy to use and it made a perfect flare first time on the steel pipes. I also had to use it on a couple of the copper flares to re-shape them to stop leaks. YES, this is an expensive tool, but it works first time which means you are confident rebuilding brake pipes and not constantly fearing leaks and disassembling to check joints. Buy it and don’t buy a cheap one!!

Good result
The tool seems to be good quality, the result is good. Only use on copper, if you want to use with steel you need to pay more. There is no need to be rough with these tools, often see people tighten 10mm with a grunt, make it snug and carry on. Nothing breaks

Fantastic quality tool
As a former quality control engineer for G E Bissel I am used to critique of press tools and produced pieces. The quality of finish on the die and mandrel does not cause the drag when the end of the pipe is spun into shape. Smooth finished surfaces make better din and SAE ends to copper or cupronickel. Cheaper models tear the surface of copper and cupronickel giving a rough finish. No chance with this piece of kit. I had to experience 3 other cheaper tools before I found this one. Now I wish I had bought this first well worth the money made by real quality conscious manufacturers. You do get what you pay for. The handle is comfortable and doesn't slip the tool operates without drag making a quality end to your pipe. Just don't forget to slide the fitting on before you use the tool please.
