Is this whistle loud enough to irritate unsolicited callers?

In my opinion it would be. It can irritate my *own* ears! This is a very loud whistle. Perhaps not well suited for outdoor use in the winter (licking flag pole problems; I'll find out this winter). I am very pleased with it, although I did change the retention ring (to a key chain split-ring) and I plan to change the lanyard to a break-away type.

Is this as loud as an emergency whistle or a rape whistle?

It’s like a normal whistle. It’s durable, it’s loud, and it does its job.

Is the Lanyard removable?

Yes..there’s a hook that connects it to the whistle. Just slip the lanyard out🤗
