Q: what actual length is this bulb (package dimensions are the only dimensions)?

The exposed glass section of each bulb is 7 1/2 inches long. They fit into sockets that are 1 inch deep. Therefore the total length of the complete bulb assembly is 8 1/2 inches long. This measurement does not include the four prongs extending out the back of the sockets that are plugged into the power source.

Q: Is there a difference in function between a blue light and this warm light for a bug zapper?

You need a black light (uv) for a bug zapper. A warm light, like this particular one, is like normal light from a lamp.

Q: Can it be used instead of the Ottlite 18w 930m?
