Is there a guarantee?

I'm not sure about a guarantee, but this is a fantastic, well built knife. Hand wash only and when you finally need to sharpen it do it correctly and it will last for ages.... Had mine more than a year and it's my primary knife.

Is this any good for cutting thin slices of crusty bread?

Yes I use it to cut and slice practically anything , it's a very versatile knife,
