Very good product other reviews just got bad SSD
I have had this SSD for nearly a year now and I am seeing loads of reviews of the SSD failing them after a couple of months. Either they broke it or tired to overwork it somehow. I am a uni student and needed this as I would have to transfer files from the uni computer to my laptop. I did find the USB C lead to be a bit short but it makes sense as if you buy velcro straps and place on the laptop lid and put velcro on the SSD then it becomes very convenient as you can have it virtually anywhere without worrying about it moving around, very secure. I used this on both mac and PC with no problems. I also have a lot of games on the SSD and the download speed and upload is stupidly fast, anyone who says its slow either works for NASA or is picky. No joke I transferred a 14GB file in 30 seconds. I was worried that if I used it for a long time it would heat up and yes it does it gets hot but it still works at optimum no problems. But you should not have it on all the time like that, not its main purpose if you are considering getting an actual large storage hard drive that is designed for long period of time use like the WD Ultra with USB c connection. This SSD is mainly for travel and easy convenience. I have not had a failure to this data and just remember this is a WD product so expect a quality product for the price. I have also dropped it a few times and after it worked fine no damage.

Small, light & fast enough but has an annoying cable.
The SSD is much smaller than I expected, especially when comparing to the WD equivalent non-SSD hard drive. It’s about half the width and very light. It’s made from high quality materials and seems very sturdy in construction.I use it for photo editing and transfer speeds have been respectable but nothing special. The only real issue is the fact that the provided USB-C cable is built in a way that makes it proprietary to this hard drive. This means it cannot be used with other devices.Would recommend.

Brilliant SSD from Western Digital
You wouldn’t believe just how small this is. 512gb and it’s smaller than an iPhone SE (5s). Amazing reliability as always from western digital. Build quality did worry me a bit but it’s not too bad, wish the metal bit didn’t dirty up the second you touch it. Other than that, really portable. I use it as my MacBook pro’s Main working SSD (can’t upgrade inner SSD plus it’s good to work off externals and then create back ups especially if your computer is touch and go or your work is important).

A great buy. SSD small, light, convenient and fast.
A great buy, from all points of view.I bought it to pair it with my XBOX ONE X, with the aim of being able to shorten the loading times of the games.Inside the package you will find the small SSD, the cable and a USC type C -> USB 3.0 adapterOnce connected it was immediately recognized by both MacMini and XBOX.Loading is wonderfully fast (up to 540 MB / s).It is not the first SSD I use, another SSD is installed in my MacMini, also Western Digital, from the "Blue" series. As I said in that review, the MacMini is reborn. However I can anticipate you that the loading times of the games have HALT.So I recommend it to all those who work with very large files or software, which require quite long loading times.Excellent transportability, you will not feel the weight of this SSD inside your bag at all and will also take up very little space on your desk. The manufacturer's 3-year warranty is the icing on the cake. Symbol of the seriousness and professionalism that has always distinguished the Western Digital brand.Have a good day and good shopping.

Decent drive, rubbish cable.
I’ve always bought Western Digital drives as I’ve found them to be the most reliable and stable.I purchased this SSD drive when the price was in excess of £600 (2TB version) for video editing and design work. I found the speed of the transfer of data to be excellent.Having read other reviews about the long length of the cable to be an issue, I had to agree. As the drive itself is so light, the long cable meant the drive moved about a lot and was difficult to position when used with a laptop. After a few weeks the drive started to disconnect by itself, which is incredibly dangerous for data. The problem got progressively worse, sometimes the drive wouldn’t mount at all.As I use the drive for my work in progress (I’m self employed and have no server to work on) I couldn’t risk the loss of files, so I decided to buy a second identical drive, to then try formatting the original one to see if that resolved the issue. To my horror and delight, I found that the same drive had dropped in price by around £200 in that short time!As soon as the new drive arrived I noticed the new drive was supplied with a shorter cable than the original. I transferred all the files to the new drive in batches, carefully checking each and everything copied properly, which it did. I then reformatted the original drive, but that made no difference, it still kept disconnecting. After a lot of trial and error I found that the supplied cable was actually at fault, even though it looks perfect and has been treated with the utmost respect. These drives come with a very respectable three year warranty. After contacting SanDisk (who actually make these drives) they told me the cable isn’t covered by the warranty so I now have to purchase a new one. Poor show in my opinion on such an expensive item when the supplied cable is clearly not fit for purpose.
