A toy to make KDY proud
This 423 piece LEGO Imperial-class Star Destroyer is a wondrous piece of entertainment and education. The construction process can help a child (or even an adult) develop identification and organizational skills as well as time-management and direction following. The directions booklet is easy to follow with colored pictures that depict a step-by-step process of constructing the vehicle. Each piece used in each step is highlighted in a legend above the picture depicting the actions required to achieve construction and head to the next step. Construction is easy and fun overall, leaving the builder satisfied and accomplished. The finished product is a beautiful replica of everyone's favorite spacial assault vehicle (it even has a stand built into the bottom for display). From the bridge to the six turbolaser turrets to the docking bay in the keel, this model is enough to satisfy any Star Wars fan's desire for authenticity and the thrill of being able to hold a REAL Imperial Star Destroyer! As an experienced and avid LEGO builder as well as a hardcore Star Wars fan, I cannot help but recommend this model. I have constructed many like it, such as Vader's TIE Advanced among others, and I must say constructing this model was incredibly fun, satisfying, and it looks great on my desk next to the others!

Great set!
I'm a Mom, and one of my sons is a Star Wars... enthusiast, to put it mildly. (Is "Crazed Star Wars Memorizing Nine Year Old Boy" a better description?)This is not the super large Star Destroyer -- this is a midi-scale set, but it is still cool.$30 is a good price -- it is manageable (~400 pieces). There are no minifigs -- minifigs add to the cost of Lego sets. It's just a fun set -- stays together in play. There is a good system for keeping the wings angled correctly.

Its not worth it
Most sets average between10 to 15 cents per piece.....this rounds out at 47 whopping cents per piece. I could maybe, MAYBE understand this as an extreme collectors set, but it doesn't have anything that would give it any added value such as minifigs or custom molded pieces. It's all extremely generic. I honestly have no idea why in the world this set is priced this way, it is extremely not worth it.In addition to its exhorbitant pricing, it also has horrible packaging and instructions. I have garnered far more enjoyment from smaller sets and the detail that went into sorting pieces into certain bags that you would work through as you build the set, each phase of the build corresponding to a certain bag to allow for maximum organization and minimum clutter.....but not this. You literally have to open every bag and have them in a giant pile to sort through, which isn't a major sin, but when you've put together sets with far more organizational intent, it just seems lazy and needlessly frustrating.

Must have for Star Destroyer lovers!
I love this set. It looks fantastic. As I recall, it was a fun one to put together. I have a substantial number of sets on display, and this is definitely one of my favorites. The midi-scale Millennium Falcon is also great. Since I got them, I've wished they would do more at this scale. Perhaps other ships don't lend themselves so well to it.

Look but don't touch.
Not a bad look but really sensitive and practicly not touchable after being built. Much prefer the new star wars legos. Design Ed to be a lot more firm.

Great
I am always worried with legos that I will not get all of the pieces but that was not the issue here. It came quickly and had all of the pieces and the box was not damaged. My boyfriend loved it!

A LEGO novice's perspective
I never got into LEGO as a child, I was more of a Transformers and GI Joe kid. I've always liked Star Wars, particularly the vehicle design. The imposing, oppressive Star Destroyer is one of my favorites. So now as an adult, with a little money to spare, and looking for a good way to pass a few evenings, this was actually my first ever LEGO kit!I'm really happy with the overall outcome of the kit. The detailed instructions made putting it together simple, and the final product looks pretty good. I spent 3 evenings working on it, but I really wasn't rushing at all. Certainly this could be built in a night or two. There are a few nits I want to focus on. The hull is composed of 4 large sections clamped onto a central spine. The first two hull sections went onto the axis easily enough. The last 2 sections were a bit of a chore though. Space was getting limited, and it was hard to snap them into place without knocking something off of one of the already-attached sections. Also, the nature of the design means the hull shifts around a LOT when you handle the finished ship. The engines fall off if you even look at them funny. I'll be gluing them into place.Beyond those nits, everything else is great. Most importantly, I had a lot of fun putting it together.
