A great expansion that really fleshes out the base game
I thought Bloodborne was great as it was, but it did feel a little lacking in cards. This expansion is great mostly because it remedies that by adding many more boss, mini-boss, monster, and item cards to the base game. It also introduces two new mechanics. The first mechanic, which I really really like, is the "rune" system. Basically, at the start of the game you're dealt two rune cards, both of which have buffs that will apply to you for the entire dungeon run. You choose one card to keep and return the other to the box. Some of these buffs are pretty straightforward, while others might radically change how you play the game. The other mechanic, which I don't like, simply introduces a new penalty for dying. Now when you die, you place three new tokens on your player mat which limit the maximum amount of trophies you can collect. One of the things I love about Bloodborne is how death isn't super punishing; you only really realize the consequences of dying at the end of the game when everyone is totaling their scores. Thus, I really don't like the idea of arbitrarily punishing players for dying, especially because pushing your luck is such a big part of this game. I tried one game with the new tokens included, and they didn't add much enjoyment to the game. Fortunately it's easy to leave them out of the game entirely (I think there's only one card in the expansion that actually references these death tokens). Finally, the new cards are really really well done. They've got great art and all of the new enemies and weapons have really interesting effects. This expansion includes a lot more cards which allow you to damage other hunters, which I think is a welcome addition since the base game only had a few cards with that effect, and the best part of Bloodborne is "accidentally" hurting your fellow hunters.Simply put, if you own Bloodborne, you really owe it to yourself to get this expansion. I wouldn't say it's mandatory (you can certainly enjoy Bloodborne without it) but it really adds quite a bit of fun and replayability to the base game.

A very needed addition
A must-have if you don't already have it. It adds extra weapons, encounters, a death penalty (which I don't really use), and a rune system that changes your playstyle. An awesome addition to an already great game.

Just like the Old Hunters DLC, this expansion is excellent and instantly mandatory for the base game.
I loved the basic foundation of the Bloodborne card game, but I always felt it was a little simply and lacked variety. This expansion was the shot in the arm that game needed. The amount of weapons and utilities seems to have doubled, and the monster and boss variety damn near tripled. Combined with a near mechanic that punishes death more severely, by capping your max kill trophies, adds more strategy to the meta game of taking out other players who are doing too well. As a huge fan of the videogame, this card game is a must buy, as long as it's complimented by this expansion. Even though Bloodborne itself only got one DLC, part of me hopes against hope that this card game receives more releases.

Highly recommended!
If you have the base game, just get this expansion! It adds so many good and interesting upgrade cards, and so many new bosses, the replayability of the game skyrockets. Great quality as always, and a ton of fun with 4-5 players. Highly recommended!

Great Game Expansion
I really think this expansion adds an excellent amount of replay to the base edition.

Essentially mandatory, but a good value
The base game does not have a ton of bosses, and this expansion fixes that. It also offers two optional mechanics for people who seek a more complex and/or more difficult experience. I do recommend getting sleeves for all of the cards (standard and tarot) if you buy this as the card backs are a slightly different coloration from the base game card backs. As of this review, getting this expansion is a little above MSRP, but not terribly so. I definitely recommend getting the base game, and if you like it while feeling like it needs more, then this expansion is a really good value that addresses the few issues with the base game.

Makes the base game much more fun.
I went back-and-forth on what rating to give this, so I think I'll give the expansion 5 stars, and probably lower my rating on the base game to 4. This expansion, in my opinion, is essential to really enjoying the base game, which is fun, but just doesn't have enough variety in cards to make for many fun playthroughs. The base game especially suffers in that it doesn't have enough "large" boss monster cards. The expansion adds a lot of depth, especially in the action cards, and makes the game much more fun. If you're buying the base game I would immediately invest the extra $15 and get this as well.
