The fix for inexpensive winch
This solenoid kit fixes the weak link for inexpensive winch. If your winch came with a black plastic box with wires coming out of it you need this kit. You have 2 relays in the box that burn up after about 50 cycles. This solenoid is stout. Got about 100 cycles on it no problems.

Works for Smittybuilt 9.5
This worked for my Smittybuilt 9.5. Basically the positive from battery as per the diagram. Then left and right like they were on the old solenoid. Third thick wire to the other middle post. For the actuator connections, middle is ground. Left / right are switched positive controlling in and out.I drilled an extra hole to fasten the solenoid to the plate, and sawed off the previous "wire channel" in the plate to give it more room for the wires to exit.4 stars because of lack of instructions and labeling. If the unit fails in the future, I will adjust rating.

Working okay for me
Does what it says it will do. Had an old smittybilt 8k on the Cherokee. Looked like a bird nest as far as the wiring on the solenoid. Got stuck out in the woods this spring, winch wouldn't work. Bench test the winch, cleaned and lubricated all connections wired this baby up with a wireless control and wah lah. Saved myself at least 250 for a harbor freight. YouTube has all the answers

broken from factory
When I opened the undamaged package I noticed it sounded like marbles rolling around inside the item. I installed it just to see and of course it did not work. It also did not come with wiring instructions. Quality seems very low, even by Chinese standards.

Works great. Manufacturer could’ve made it easier
The media could not be loaded. If you like frustration, this is the ticket for you. Forget that there’s no instructions. The photos provided with both just the relay and the relay with wireless are in fact, not even close. Now that I’ve done it, I did order a second one for my hitch lift on my truck that runs off two relays. It’s a pretty annoying set up. I went with a 500 amp on even though I only need 50 A.Also not included in the photo as the blue wire which ties the negative to the center connector where you hook up the control wiresI bought this additional kit to replace my current hand control. It’s anything but a direct replacement, but it has splitters on the connectors that go to the control so you can piggyback the wireless right to it after you re-crimp the connectors, cut and splice and make a rainbow of wires..Unrelated to the project, it was really annoying to remove the original Smittybilt relay. I don’t know if they did it at the factory whoever installed it, but they put the bolts in backwards so you had to put the Allen on the inside of the wrench on the outside, which is nearly impossible without bending one of the things out of the way when removing..Anyway, here’s some photos. You might be able to learn something from this but whenever you do, you’re not gonna be going by color it’s doable when a simple 15 minute project took it turned into about three hours.I had to uncoil all my cable cause it was all messed up. The remote worked pretty far away. I didn’t go to the limits sometimes when you let off, it doesn’t immediately stop, but it’s pretty good. You might want to have a disconnect in your system.Take a note if you use my wire colors look very closely because they change multiple times. For some reason on the replacement remote, the red wire isn’t positive if you look closely, there’s an extra black wire small one coming out of my winch that you’re supposed to attach to the negative terminal. I’m gonna tape it off when I use it thing started smoking it’s gonna vary depending on your application. It works so clearly I don’t need the wire.
