Lightly run the shaft (not the tip) of a soldering iron along it. Don't use the tip, because you'll spoil the tip for soldering, and leave solder on the sleeve. As others have said, hot-air gun is the 'official' approach; but if you have a soldering iron handy, it works fine.

Q: Does this create a waterproof seal for use with outside wiring?

The tubing is shrink wrapped by warming and shrinks right to the wire almost to the extent of being a complete seal. Not sure I would trust a mains wire outside without some sort of extra protection.. if it was only 12v or so I would give it a go.

Q: Will this shrink using a Dysom Hair dryer?

Sure as long as its on HOT, btw : I use a lighter :0)

Q: Is there writting on the tubing

Within the set I received there were 3 with writing on. 1.0*45mm / 1.5*45mm / 3.0*45mm. None of the other sizes had writing however this may well be a random feature dependent on the product available when packing off the unit. Will say in conclusion that I have found the product both with writing or otherwise to work really well and not have (to my eye) a difference in performance. Hope this helps.
