Works great on my sore knees
These ice packs are perfect for use on my knees. They get very cold and the coldness lasts for about 30 minutes; just the right amount of time for medical purposes. You do need to be careful and use a towel or cloth underneath to prevent ice burn (frost bite). The stretchy straps hold the ice pack in place. I lay the ice on top of my knee, cris-cross the straps behind my knee, wrap them around the front and velcro in place. They hold the ice in place very well. (BTW, my knee is about 18" around.) There are 3 sections that allow the ice pack to wrap perfectly around the knee. The material is a sturdy plastic/vinyl. There is some sweating as the ice pack "melts". I can see where these would also work great on my lower back. The straps are long enough to wrap around my waist to hold the ice in place on my back. I am so glad I purchased these. They come in a set of 2, which is also handy. I store them in the freezer when not in use. It can also be used as a heating device by placing it in the microwave, however I have not used it that way so I cannot comment on that aspect.

Wraps around a leg well very well
I found that the packs wrap around an ankle and calf well if it's rolled up before I put it in the freezer. It forms a circular shape that unravels easily to fit well. I just tie the straps and don't bother with the velcro. If I were to use it on a wider area, like my back, the velcro would be a great feature. I have not yet used it for heat. Any wetness is just condensation which the towels absorb. Since I use it while leg is resting up on a stool, to reduce swelling, I use two small towels: one goes around the skin under the pack and the other rests on the stool. It's well made. It's great having two, for the ankle and the calf, for an Achilles tendon injury. Stays cold much longer than the 15 to 20 minutes it's used at a time. So glad I purchased this.

Great little ice packs
I have chronic pain in a variety of places. What I love about these ice packs is you can use them on your low back, mid back, neck, ankle, thigh, wrist - wherever you are experiencing pain! The velcro helps hold them in place & they stay cool for about 20 min. Also, they are inexpensive enough that I have mailed them to friends out of state if I am staying with them so I don't have to bring mine along.

Have owned many of these, but this brand is the best
I have electric heating pads, small rice bags, large specialty heat bags, gel cold-hot pads, etc. and they always fall short. But not these! The electric pads can't do cold, the rice bags loose heat quickly and generate hot spots (I kept trying to redistribute the rice which seemed to collect at one end). The large heat bags were ok, but usually heated some areas I'd rather stay cool.I bought other brands of gel packs with fabric covers and liked the even heating but these are still superior in some important ways. With the fabric covers, sometimes the heat doesn't come out fast enough initially but then heats up too much. Then, with less gel inside than these they cooled down quickly. Also, the elastic was so long that it barely fit my 32" waist. These are designed perfect! The elastic seems like it'd go down to about 24". It overhangs a bit for me, but I imagine that's so it'd adjust for much larger sizes still. The gel is thicker but still thin and seems to hold the heat and cold much better than anything I've used before. The heat seems to last twice as long, but using as a cold pack is outstanding. Having one for each use is a great perk too! I tend to have gut pain and these help. They're comfortable enough that I have no trouble sleeping with them on.The one thing I thought was going to be a "downside" was the air-mattress style fabric, but it actually allows me to put it outside my shirt and makes it so I can adjust the temperature transfer. If I really want to push every bit of use out of it, I can put it on my skin a while later and it'll last even longer (which is rare).

Good value
For the price these are a great purchase. I wish that the cold lasted a little longer, but then you get two. So when the first one is not cold any longer then put it back in the freezer and use the other one. They don’t work quite as well as the one that my physical therapist has, but then his cost $1,500. I am using these to help relieve pain from a torn rotator cuff and they really work quite well. It is hard to get ice to stay in the right place for a shoulder injury but the straps on these work pretty good to hold it in place.

Wet
When using cold they are wet leaving clothing wet. I don’t like them and wouldn’t purchase again!
