Q: how do I get it engraved with a name and dates?

The people that sell urns will usually have the equipment to engrave final words etc.

Q: Is it held together with glue or nails?

It appears to be held together with a commercial adhesive, but to ensure it's longevity, we put the ashes in the Urn, then bought (at Walmart) w small safe, and put the urn inside that, then set it all in a heavy plastic bag, then buried it in the ground 6 feet. Hope this helps...:-)
