A surprise for non-english people!
Here in Italy it's almost impossible to find Golden Syrup, or even one of its many substitutes (corn syrup and so on), so I didn't know much about it before I bought it.Golden Syrup is nothing else than inverted sugar syrup (something that you can naturally find in homemade marmelade and jam); is an almost necessary ingredient if you want to prepare a good homemade fudge (this is the reason for me to buy it).If you're looking for a substitute for maple syrup... well, golden syrup it's definetely non the same: it's non as runny as maple syrup, and the taste is not so aromatic; Golden Syrup is more similar to honey as far as concerns texture and taste.By the way it's really good over pancakes (even better if you heat it up first).Give it a try, if you haven't yet; golden syrup is perfect also to prepare crunchy biscuits like Anzac ones, or as an alternative to other sweet ingredients (like sugar, honey or molasses).

My porridge is not the same without it
Shame the packaging was sticky with leaked syrup. All the tins needed washing

Sticky black syrup on outside of tins
The syrup inside is good but it’s messy on the outside. I mistakenly bought these thinking they were the bigger tins but they are the small ones. Cheaper at Lidl.

Cane sugar is best
I am convinced that this product, made from cane sugar, is better than the syrup made from sugar beet.

A must for anyones kitchen.
Besides being sweet, does sugar -- from sugar cane -- have a flavor? It does! And when the sugar boils down into syrup, the flavor comes out. So, okay -- it IS sugar. Politically incorrect. Empty calories.... I know, I know. But whether you take your sugar "naturally" in fruit or honey or "unnaturally" in hiprocessed candies and sugar-coated cereals, the chemical is the same....And the thing is not to get too much. And if I'm going to have a certain amount ANYway, there are days when this is how I want to eat it.Ly'les Golden Syrup is a nice flavor alternative to honey, or maple syrup. The texture is thick like honey, but the flavor is light. It has much more "depth" and thickness than corn syrup. If you like crisp, Belgian waffles, Porridge or just toast, this is great on them --with or without pats of melted butter. My grandma used to use this more than 50 years ago and I started loving it as a kid. She put it in frostings and who knows what else. But I just like it as it is... dip your fingers in and lick them off. Ummmmmmmm....My kids love this stuff on their Porridge Oats every morning, the flavour is amazing.A must for anyones kitchen.

Still the Best.
The iconic can says it all.'From the strong came forth sweetness'.When you are of the same age as me this conjours up a rare treat which always seemed to taste so much sweeter then.Along with dripping sandwiches, egg and bacon fried in lard this was a staple of the British diet in the 50s and 60s.Times may have changed but this partially inverted syrup- always called, but wrongly so 'treacle' has stood the test of time. The recipe has never changed and why should it?This is a main ingredient of flapjack. We always double the amount of syrup so that it is chewy.A Great Taste. The make Lyle amalgamated with Tate (of the Gallery Fame) but the iconic brand and distinctive tin remained. The Quotation is from the Bible, Old Testament.Which if memory serves me was from the story where Samson asks the riddle to the Philistines. The correct answer to the riddle was a wild swarm of bees had made their nest in the carcass of a dead lion. The strong was the lion- the sweet the honey that the bees made.
