Worth the investment
This is a great quality tool, and in my opinion it is worth the money to get the "Anti Vibration Technology". I have used other cheaper tools, and other Makita models, and the amount of vibration is always an issue and limits the amount of work you can do. The difference with this model is very noticeable, and the vibration really doesn't feel significant. It is robust (heavy), but reciprocating saws are. The speed of changing the blades and control on the trigger are great, as is the overall build quality. The only negative is the ease with which the trigger locks on, especially with gloves. It's a problem I have noticed with a few Makita tools but it is not a big issue.

One of the best purchases I have ever made.
It took me 5 hrs to hand saw a section of a cast iron waste pipe in my loft. Externally, I used an angle grinder. Fireworks in the loft is not a very good idea. This wonderful.saw, combined with a very expensive Lenox Double tang reciprocating saw blade; Diamond, from: Alan Wadkins Tool Store Ltd. It took me 15 mins to cut out the rest. This saw will be your friend for the rest of your life; only if you work in horrible situations when you can't wait to see the back of it and you want to get it done as quickly as possible.

Great quality and extremely powerful
This piece of equipment is extremely powerful and cuts through large branches like butter. Great quality also from Makita. The down side is the weight but this is to be expected from this heavy duty model.

Good for tough steel
Acquired one of these specifically to cut through some seized suspension bolts. Used bi metal blade and on the slowest speed setting, the blade did not overheat or spark despite cutting though quite hard and thick steel. This is one of the very few saws on the market with a separate speed control - much easier to use than trying not to squeeze the trigger too hard. 4 cuts in confined space and only one blade broken due to my clumsiness. Result!

Heavy duty, Chinese made.
This reciprocating saw is surprisingly heavy and when set to its maximum speed and maximum pivot can tear through wood, sheet good and posts comically easily and quickly. Can be heavy to use, kick and need a fair bit of controlling in use! This is not a precision tool, more for demolishing and doing fast cuts etc. Many blades available to cut metal and green wood etc. This biggest version from Makita seems like it will last a long time and handle a lot of abuse. Comes in a plastic case with some room for spare blades.Made in China. Disappointing and not the normal way of things with Makita.

Marvellous saw with great power and low vibration
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 July 2023This is a fairly weighty saw but the low vibration makes it very easy to use. Other top brands vibrate so much that control is degraded which can get dangerous. The Makita handles like a dream and cuts through 4 inch by 4 inch fence posts, precisely, like they were made of butter. This is an amazing tool and for most jobs the fact that it’s corded doesn’t matter. I took it into my garden and it easily cut very strong roots off a small tree I was removing. Tough, rough or more meticulous jobs, it’s just excellent.
