British Sign Language: Teach Yourself: Book Paperback – 29 Oct. 2010

I learned 57yr ago BSL alphabet and basic signs, my freinds family were Deaf. Now mid 60s I'm full steam ahead studying BSL since meeting a new friend who struggles with speech. This book is essential buying, it will really go a long way in teaching you BSL..and with practice BSL is not hard, and with daily practice you'll be amazed how quickly you learn it.

Although I am Deaf, I find the book very helpful for my potential future BSL teaching.

This book covers Level 1 BSL and has no chapter on numbers. I found the layout and introductory material on Deaf culture very helpful - however I would suggest viewing other material such as the BBC's "See Hear" programs on iPlayer and BSL Zone if you want to get a better understanding of deaf issues and concerns. After reading most of the the book iniitally, I lapsed for a while but I'm coming back to it now with a view to making a fresh start. The DVD (or iPhone downloads at [...]) are very useful as static drawings usually cause some confustion (although the ones in this book, together with the notation, works well for the most part).I would certainly recommend this book as a starter to BSL. Maybe they could do a follow-up at Level 2 next?

Learning bsl now, pretty understandable and that CD at the back helps lots

Really useful book and DVD that breaks everything down for simple use; very quick to get started a get through and although it does not have the most complex parts of BSL it does have the basics and now I'm ready to move on to the next stage (but very happy to keep this as a reference guide for future development)

I'm sure the book and course are great but the book came without the dvd promised in the description. It says the video resources can be viewed online which is fine but we bought it specifically for the dvd. Please can the description be updated to reflect what the purchaser is buying.

Absolutely excellent book - explains the learning of BSL well. Both my partner and I really enjoyed going through it together - perfect for winter months! Highly recommended.
