Need a long slice toaster then look no further
Love this toaster - does tiger bread from asda spot on for me. One thing to make a note of - the instructions state to run the toaster a few times when you take it out of the box. Do this. It might smell a bit but don't worry that's the new car smell. Once you've done this a few times you should be good to go. Crumpets were spot on as well.

Great toaster chosen after a lot of research.
Most reviews are good, mine falls easily into that category. The toaster arrived, not well packed as the manufacturers box was covered in cling film as the only protection, and the box was a little damaged, having travelled from the supplier in Poland! However the toaster was in perfect condition and looks much smarter in black and stalnless steel than its plastic predecessor. Shame about the plug adaptor which makes the overall plug project a long way out. When I am sure that it continues to perform well I will change the plug for a standard English 13A one.The long slots will just take 4 slices of my Warburtons brown seeded bread which are larger than the standard british white loaf. So that's fine. Once I had established the correct setting, the toast is consistently browned, and large unsliced bread toasts at the same setting. The built in bun warmer lift up rack is well designed to sit discretely into the toaster. The toast takes slightly longer to toast than I would have expected but a small price to pay for a good looking machine which sits nicely at the rear of the worktop out of the way, which is more than I could say about the majority of toasters that are square in plan. 2 long slots seems so much more sensible if you also use large unsliced bread.Time will tell over its consistency in toasting and how long it will serve its purpose, but I would have no hesitation in recommending it.

Does the job
I love the design of this one and this was the main reason why I bought it. Compared to the other 'four slicers', this one does not take up a lot of space on the kitchen counter. It has a removable tray which makes it easier to clean but there are always some crumbs left stuck on the inside anyway which you kind of need to shake it upside down to get rid of. The rack on top is quite flimsy but it does the job.The main struggle for me was finding the right heating option.I have set it up on 3 and the toast is quite brown and sometimes the very edge gets burnt so I have to constantly keep an eye on it. Don't even know why the bother having 6 settings..If I set it up on 2 then it is not crispy enough and the middle is soft so clearly not enough heat and/or time.Make sure you do follow instructions when using first time - I have heated it up 6 times as per instruction with no bread initially just to get rid of the initial smell. Make sure you do that.As for the capacity it quite easily fits 4 slices, even sideways, therefore most bread slices fit fully which is normally a problem with other toasters.Overall not bad as got used to it and stainless steel is good quality so still love the design, especially for the money, definitely worth it.

Excellent product.
Has a very good quality finish and looks much more expensive than it was. Makes good toast and the variable setting control seems to work, giving you good control over the browning of the toast, so that it can be done to your liking. My wife and I have different ideas on the subject of brownness! Will accommodate any size of bread that we have encountered if you put them in sideways and will take any thickness of bread that we would want to use.The defrost and bun-warming functions work very well; the latter does a good job on croissants. No problems so far and, all in all, very pleased with it.

Mmmmm ... we can hardly believe this could be ‘Amazon’s Choice’.
We wanted a replacement long-slot 4-slice toaster, not many of them around these days. Our old cheapo plastic thing was great but gave up after 5+ years. So we thought we'd go "up-market" - "UPMARKET !!!???" ... Read on folks! At first (and after we'd followed the "running-in" procedure) the Severin looked the business.BUT then, and for us the Severin has just got worse & worse & WORSE day-by-day:-1. Of course bread & buns come in different sizes but (as is endlessly reported below - as we now-and-too-late see!) the slots aren’t deep enough to take our perfectly-ordinary UK Tesco 'Farmhouse' slices or wide enough to take ordinary Tesco/M&S hot-cross buns (unless one is immaculately careful about cutting them super-precisely in half) and certainly not wide enough for bagels etc. This means that you have to be prepared to trim, in our case trim EVERYTHING every time = BORING, not to say wasteful - and more washing-up! (Looking inside it does look as if the slots could easily be deeper - whatever, they're neither deep enough nor wide enough for perfectly ordinary UK bread or buns = very ANNOYING … or do I mean very CRAZY?). We're now left wondering, is this toaster in reality designed for a market that doesn't use ordinary UK-sized breads? If so WHY DON'T SEVERIN & AMAZON SAY SO AND EXPLAIN THIS? Had they done so of course we wouldn't have bought it.And then things get ... even WORSE:-2. The Amazon page has 3 photos showing toast in the Severin - all 3 of which CLEARLY show FOUR slices of toast - exactly as this page also CLEARLY states: so, on that understanding, we bought it. But, when it arrives, its instruction-book CLEARLY says, "This appliance is intended only for toasting single bread slices in each toast slot ... Toasting of several slices of bread in one slot ... must not be attempted" = UTTER-NUTSVILLE! ... and of course the instructions go on to say, and in bold, "Any use other than described in these instructions must be considered improper and may lead to personal injury or material damage". So THANK YOU, Severin/Amazon - THAT'S JUST GREAT!Moving on ...3. The browning control-knob isn't (even remotely) easy-enough to read - we have to get a torch out to read it! We feel this is a clear-as-crystal example of how poorly and how sloppily thought-through the whole Severin design is - we find its ergonomics are really, really BAD.4. On ours (and despite what Severin's instructions say about, "In the case of bread specifically intended for toasting, we recommend a browning control setting of 3 to 4) anything above heat-setting 3 max. (out of 6) is useless - it just burns things ... even soggy hot-cross-buns can't quite take setting 2. And the adjustments aren't even-remotely sensitive/fine enough: 1.75 leaves our hot-cross buns underdone, 2 begins to burn them!5. Ours doesn't toast (even single!) slices remotely-evenly on both sides. The internal 'divider'-element seems a lot stronger than the two outer elements. Set to 2 (or just under, depending on the bread), the internal sides come out over-done, the external sides hardly browned at all ... WHAAATTT!!! - we thought this was supposed to be a GOOD toaster that WORKS properly!6. The cable-tidy is ridiculous, leaving either not-enough or too-much cable lying about on the worktop = REALLY-bad ergonomics AGAIN.7. We bought the Severin largely because it's German - but neither the quality nor the ergonomics look or feel remotely 'German' to us - it sure ain't made by VW or Mercedes! It's as far away from "Vorsprung Durch Technik” as we can possibly imagine. (Yes, it says 'Made in China' underneath)8. So, unlike with our Russell Hobbs 2-slice 'Texas', we're now not EVEN REMOTELY 'in love' with our Severin: the Russel-Hobbs (considerably better-made we'd say - and with its properly-wide & its all-important 2.5cm deeper slots, its accurate and simple browning-adjustment and its thought-through and easily-readable good-ergonomics design) was under half the Severin's price (Ok, I'd like to be able to admit for half the number of slices! But then THAT turns out to be not even true = NUTSVILLE again!)8. Our daughter said that IF we were happy with ours she'd buy an, er, 4-slice Severin too. No, (sadly) that ain't going to happen ... by a thousand +++ miles. After a few weeks of trying we're beginning to think that this is the ONLY really bad Amazon product we've EVER bought. Oh, and the stainless steel housing is now beginning to go blotchy: it looks dirty - but it's not. The instructions say, "To clean the housing, it is only necessary to wipe the outside with a slightly damp cloth" = RUBBISH - ours gets increasingly blotchy, so grubby-looking, by the day.So:-9. A month on, we’ve now completely 'had it' with this thing. So we're going back to our trusty (and excellent) Russell Hobbs until we've found a proper long-slot/4-slice replacement. We should of course return the 'ridiculous' Severin in disappointment - and in quite some irritation: returning/rejecting something would be an Amazon 'first' for us out of hundreds(?) of happy Amazon purchases. BUT we read below about hassles and only partial (30%) refunds etc. We can't face the hassle - on top of the disappointment. So we're going to stick the thing away at the back of a cupboard in case of some future toaster-less 'emergency'.And then ....10. We're going to start looking for a 4-slice long-slot toaster that does what it claims to do - and that then actually WORKS.

Lovely looking appears high quality but not good height
Toaster appears to be very good quality and takes thick slices. But have to cook bread on one side then turn it as the toaster isn't high enough ie only takes narrow width of bread even though plenty of length. Not suitable for our breadmaker loaves.
