Blue Enclosure for Ham It Up v1.3 RF Upconverter

Ordered this blue anodised case with the  Ham It Up v1.2 - NooElec RF Upconverter for SDR PCB from NooElec at the same time (add both to basket, then buy) to save messing about later trying to make my own. Both items arrived in one package in just over a week from New York state without gathering additional charges, I may have been lucky.Getting the case is a good decision I think as it is the best way of preventing damage and accidental shorts but also shields from any stray RF. I did clean off the blue anodised coating in the countersunk screw hole surfaces on the end plates so they made a `complete' conducting cage. You could go the full hog and clean the edges where the plates touch the box. The only other thing missing is a hole/optic to see the LED on the pcb.Supplied with all required mounting hardware (screws and brass stand-offs).Put together with the PCB it makes a neat little SDR gadget that performs well.

Perfect for up-converting sub-VHF frequencies to VHF for use in an sdr receiver. Easy to assemble and use. Professional build quality.

Had to file a 1mm slot and re-countersink the holes for mounting the PCB. Even with the Brass mounting pillars forced on the PCB to facilitate the lining up of the holes.Also, a USB-B Socket? On sensitive radio gear? Really?This is inviting noise on the DC line as foly will power it from a computer or powered hub. I am currently using a 10000mA/H Lion backup battery to run the Ham It Up until the end of this damn Covid-19 panic. I will fit a proper DC connector and 12v-5v regulator and associated components so I get a noisy-less supply. This will require a piece of aluminium fitting and gluing to fill the hole on the side where the "B" socket was then drill a 6.5mm Dia hole in the aluminium cover to fit a real DC socket. We have enough problems with damn LED lighting and switch mode power supplies, network extending mains-movers causing a plethora of ambient noise without adding noise on the DC line from a USB device.

I am reluctant to be too critical other than to suggest it is a bit deaf. Compared to the Funcube dongle the HF adapter plus USB TV stick is clumsy. However it is really not very much money to get listening on HF and have all the flexibility offered by SDR.

Received the Noolec SDR up converter as a present but needed the enclosure to protect it in the Ham Shack, Easy enough to put together and quite sturdy.

Fits perfectly. My only small gripe is the placement of the USB socket on the PCB. adjacent to the sma would have been better.

Well made, all the screws / ports lined up so my Ham It Up converter board is protected and, hopefully, a bit more resistant to RFI in and around the shack.

Well made case. Upconverter inserted after supplied screw pegs (2) fitted. One of the pegs had a faulty thread at the bottom (no thread). When the screw was put in it would not tighten up enough to stop the board moving. The other screw and peg was ok.I ended up making a small washer to take up the slack. Shame this happened. I would otherwise have given it 5 stars.

Joli petit boitier en aluminium teinté bleu azur et qui protège bien le convertisseur HF. Bien adapté. Facile à emmener.

Very happy I spent the extra money for this enclosure. Once assembled, you have a great 'break-out' box for your radio listening (and DXing) pleasure. The box not only protects the printed circuit board that IS the radio's guts, but it assists in reducing much of the radio frequency interference that might be present with just the circuit board 'naked' to the world. Finely machined and fits like a glove.

Nice case, well made and It was a snap to assemble the NooElec Ham It Up board inside. The fit and assembly was perfect, everything matched up exactly. All screws and hardware was included. Well worth the asking price.
