Great bit of kit, for me much better than the equivalent petrol chainsaw
Bought this for tackling various jobs around and the garden and am very glad I did! Key benefits for me (over the 2 stroke chainsaw I had been using) are: 1) No battle to start a recalcitrant engine 2) Much reduced noise 3) No smoke / fumes. 4) Pick up and put down ability. If you are tackling a bitty job where you have to cut / look / think / cut or just need to make an occasional cut, being able to pick up the saw, prod the power button and go without having to go through the whole 2 stroke start up rigmarole is fantastic. You are also not clutching a smokey, noisy, hot engine egging you to rush on with the cuts as quickly as possible.Performance wise I wouldn't say this is significantly more capable than a 2 stroke saw of the same size, but it's definitely not any less capable. It won't make you into a lumberjack, but it also won't make you feel silly. Be in no doubt, this is no toy, it needs to be treated with respect. Perhaps even more so because the only downside of an electric motor is there is no noise to tell you it's ready to cut! Having said that Makita have built an auto shutdown into the control electronics, so if you set it aside it will quickly turn itself off anyway.Very easy to make totally safe if you are working on the chain. Just remove both batteries (battery installation and removal is quick and easy).Battery life seems good. I bought a couple of sets of large capacity batteries. The Makita supplied charger works well and charging is quick.Installing / replacing the chain is easy. Tensioning the chain is easy. Chain lubrication works well, with a good sized reservoir. Can't comment on longevity yet, but it feels reasonably well put together. All in this tool was a revelation for me. I'd had a fairly negative relationship with my 2 stroke chain saw and would often just stick to a hand saw to avoid the hassle of firing the thing up. This is brilliant for jobs around the garden. Just treat it with respect, it's a proper chain saw!

Great bit of kit
I was thinking of one of these for a long time.I was put off by the price and old double screw adjustment for the chain, I also had a worry how long the batterys would lastI'm happy to say I'm glad I took the plunge when I saw this baby at a discount. The saw cuts very well and has loads of power. It does use up the battery more than any other Makita tool I have but not crazy.I bought extra 5amp batteries just in case.I have 6 and that keeps the saw running constantly. The toolless adjustment works well.I also discovered an oil adjustment in the bottom of the saw.Very happy.

Excellent Chainsaw
First chainsaw owned. Thought I would invest in a battery operated for ease of use as petrol ones troublesome and heavy.Bought Makita as I own several of their power tools and can’t fault them. This chainsaw is very competitively priced. Much dearer ones out there. What a fantastic piece of kit. Easy to set up.Chain can be adjusted with one hand.Very quiet in operation and so far has cut log after log with ease. Some as thick as 12” diameter. The battery consumption has been very good.Well pleased and very much recommended.Get one you won’t be disappointed.Mark

Fantastic item
This is a quality piece of kit, couldn’t believe how easy it cuts through the wood, also very quiet compared to petrol chainsaws. Having had a few petrols in the past I found they are pretty unreliable when not used for a while. Would never go back.

Perfect for small jobs.
It's not as powerful as a petrol version, but it's quiet, easy to use and great for smaller log cutting jobs like I have. I have compatible batteries from other tools so makes sense to have this model.

Simple to set up, impressive performance and easy to clean - without the headache of maintenance that you get with petrol
I have not used nor owned a chainsaw before, so I am writing as a novice user. My trees had not been pruned in 17 years and they were in dire need. I was looking for a used Stihl petrol chainsaw and then came across some YouTube videos of this chainsaw and was impressed. I already have a lot of Makita battery operated kit, so had the LXT batteries and charger. It arrived next day and I put it to use straight away. Set up was very easy, you just need to pay attention to the way the chain is installed on the bar as if you get it wrong it will not cut. Put some chain oil in and you are ready to go. It made easy work of cutting back the trees. I needed to cut two down entirely, although they were relatively small trees. Nothing phased it, it just cut cleanly throughout the day. Once finished, you take the the side off which enables you to clean out the area by the drive wheel. Very impressive kit.

Highly recommended, great purchase.
What an awesome unit this is 👌Delivery was excellent.Condition of box/ item was excellent.Fairly simple to put together, biggest thing to watch out for is to ensure you put the chain on the correct way, always oil the runner 1st... Also make certain that you keep the underside of the chain (which has shaped nibs) goes fully into the extender runner (it attaches to the saw itself) - keep chain tight or it will keep falling out.Make sure you extend the plate using the small winder, then tighten with the big winder. Before use, make sure it's fairly tight against the runner or it will come off its track.I used this saw to cut back over growth and cut down a few trees.... ordinarily you'd say because it's battery operated unit the power wouldn't be there or that it wouldn't last long, but please, allow me to be foolish --- what a cracking piece of kit this is, did not miss a beat --- enjoyed the safety features of this saw, came in real handy --- I used 5ah battery X2 which is 36v, I had upwards of an hour with them, which is a lot more time than what I got with my brushless 9" 36v grinder (good piece of kit).Happy is an understatement 😊
