Holy Fanola!
Bit of back story- I have used henna for about 12 years over what was once strawberry blonde hair. I'm now an ash blonde with a scattering of white hairs and I was ready to try and grow out natural, before I grey more and it gets harder.First off, I started gradually lightening the bulk of the darker, almost maroon hair with spray in lightener (go super careful with this). I would spritz damp hair with it, wrap in a plastic cap and leave for a couple of hours before rinsing and conditioning. I did this once a week for around four weeks.I also did a couple of VERY STRONG citric acid rinses in between.Eventually, I felt I couldn't strip the colour any more without incurring severe damage, so I decided it was time to tone.I was left with ashy roots, followed by a yellowish band, followed by the orange (the majority of the bum-length hair).Firstly I washed my hair with shampoo, towel dried and then slathered on the Fanola, foaming it through. I left it on for 20 mins and rinsed.I could see the flaming orange had subsided, but not enough.I dried my hair completely, and then applied fanola again. This time I DID NOT lather, but painted it on thick, as though it were hair dye. I left this on for another 20 mins before rinsing and using a very, very heavy deep conditioner. The end result is very good and I am amazed. It has blended my multiple bands of colours beautifully.Caution- this stuff is pretty drying. I've damp-oiled my hair, slathered on leave in conditioner and braided it all up. I'll leave this hairstyle in for at least a week to give the hair a rest.I'm thinking that this stuff does a little more than just depositing a blue pigment; I suspect it also strips some colour, much like a clarifying shampoo or citric acid.

Brilliant for Blondes
I find this works miles better than purple shampoo. I have bleached my hair light blonde from a dark dirty blonde, which tends to go a bright light orange with the bleach due to the amount of warm tones in my natural colour. My hair is also quite thin so I have to be careful with bleach etc. This shampoo is brilliant for taking out both orange and yellow tones, making my hair either a very light blonde, or I can even get it to go more grey/white in colour. I have applied it both dry hair, and to wet hair to see the difference. It seemed to work well on both, possibly slightly better on dry hair. Wear gloves as it will dye your skin blue. If your hair is very light/white be careful on the amount of time you keep it on your hair as you can end up with slight blue tones if left for a long period, but 5 minutes works really well, or do a tester patch. I found when I have had slight blue tones left on my hair, they've washed out again after a couple of washes, so it's never permanent. I always use a really good conditioner after washing it out, and haven't tried the blue conditioner that goes with this. Overall this is the best shampoo I've found for getting rid of orange and yellow.

Improved my hair colour.
I can't thank this product enough.I used to use pure & all natural henna dye with no indigo etc a couple of times in my life and if you know anything about henna you'll know that it's a permanent, for life sort of commitment. Anyways I thought my hair outgrew the henna and that I should be fine with using a box dye. No, I wasn't fine.I used a no-ammonia permanent box dye in the colour 6 something for a light brown colour. Unfortunately my hair turned LIGHT LIGHT orangeish brown and as a week or two passed my hair looked even more super light orange-brown with coppery or red tones. I watched a few youtube videos and saw this shampoo being recommended. I instantly bought it and started to see the changes in my hair after the second wash I'd say. My hair still has that orange/coppery/reddish tone to it under direct sunlight when you look at individual hairs but as a whole my head looks like a toned down medium/dark brown hair Didn't fully cure the consequences of my stupidity but my hair is much better now.Keep in mind that it's extremely blue and can very easily splash on to all your surfaces and stain whatever it touches so be prepared with gloves, towels etc etc.

Amazing!
I have been using this for a few years now. I have naturally very dark hair and a dark ash blonde balayage. I tend not to use this as regular shampoo as I prefer other shampoos to wash my hair, but I do use it as a type of mask. When my colour starts to go brassy, I pop this on dry or damp hair and leave to marinate for around 30 mins, then give it a good wash with regular shampoo a few times and my hair comes out a lovely ashy colour with no brass. I have in the very recent past made the mistake of leaving this on for 3 hours and my hair went blue, but after around 15 washes 😳 it was a vibrant ash blonde colour again, so do be careful if you try this technique. Also, a few years ago I got my hair highlighted a much lighter blonde and the hairdresser unfortunately missed a piece of hair along my hairline at my widows peak which was very noticeable when I had my hair tied back. I didn't have time to go back to the salon as I was going on holiday the next day, but I did have some hair bleach in the house, but no toner. I used this blue shampoo as the toner on dry hair, leaving it on for an hour, and you would never have known!

Didn't work for me
I had high hopes after trying out several different purple shampoos, but my hair is still quite brassy so didn't really work on mine. It also really dries my hair. I've applied plenty on dry hair as per in previous reviews.

No more orange hair!!!!
I brought blonde hair dye and instead dyed my hair orange. This shampoo saved me. It does dry your hair so use a hair mask. The photos are from when I first dyed my hair to the first wash with this shampoo then the 2nd wash. The results speak for themselves.
