It just works!
I needed this device to interface a piece of test equipment to my PC, running Windows 10. RS 232 isn't always the easiest interface to manage, but I plugged this lead into the PC, set the terminal software to 8-n-1 format and 9600baud. Windows set this device up as COM6. Plugged the D connector into the remote device and they started communicating with no fuss at all!The LEDS for Power, TxD and RxD are handy to prove data is moving, although they are out of sight most of the time. I have been able to test this cable at 9600 and 115,200baud with no apparent issues.Great little adapter.

Superb
Does its job even with plenty of electrical noise to go around. Well worth the extra few quid compared to the cheaper ones you see about. Not a budget item but if you want quality this is for you. Compatible with Windows, Linux and FreeBSD; haven't tried anything else but I'd be willing to bet it'll work with anything that has USB.

Plug and play serial interface for Linux
Works out of the box using the kernel's pl2303 module.Vendor ID: 067bDevice ID: 23a3The red light is quite bright and illuminated constantly. I'm not sure what the different colours mean; yellow flickers when data is transferred and I'm not sure what makes the green one light up... but if it ever does, I'm afraid it will do so with the brightness of a thousand suns.At least the LEDs aren't blue!

NOT a GOOD general purpose USB to serial device
I'm trying to use this as a general purpose 232 port on Windows 11.It defaults to COM5:. The commandC>copy testfile com5:works, and characters are sent to the port, albeit with unknown baud rate.Windows device manager recognises that the device as working. Unfortunately though, when you use device manager to set it to COM1:, it either sticks with COM5:, or stops working altogether. So, if you have software that requires COM1:, you're out of luck.Device manager also allows you to change the baud rate, but this doesn't seem to change the behaviour of the device either. The time taken to output the test file stays the same regardless of the baud rate you set in device manager. Essentially, while device manager recognises that it's there, device manager isn't able to configure it.There might be a driver for it out there somewhere, and it may have really cool hardware, but as it stands it's not configurable; it's not plug and play, and it doesn't work out of the box. Probably more trouble than it's worth.I'll think about sending it back because it won't work for its intended purpose, and it's of very limited use for anything else.

COM5 USB to Serial RS232 converter
This product did exactly what it said on the tin! It reprogrammed my telescope from my laptop's USB port over an RS232 connection. I have had problems in the past with other similar devices under Windows 7. I found a similar one in the past but it does not have a driver for my new Win 10 64 bit laptop. This VTOP device worked first time, it installed the driver, and then reprogrammed my telescope no problem! PLEASE NOTE that this device installed on my laptop as COM5 serial channel . I am not sure whether one can change this in the software driver, so make sure that you do not already have something running on COM5. It also has three LEDs on it so you can see it's working! Highly recommended!
