THE ODYSSEY GRAPHIC NOVEL (Usborne Graphic Novels)

Our high schooler is reading The Odyssey (the actual book), and I bought this graphic novel version for our 8-yo. He loves it. Great purchase.

The media could not be loaded. I purchased this book to use along side my homeschooling history curriculum. I first purchased the Osborne illustrated Odyssey version but my children would not sit and listen at all; zero interest. To be honesty they did a great job as well on the retelling in that version but my elementary age kids did care. It was a chore for them to listen, there was no draw to the book picture wise. This book however was/is amazing. It went straight from the Amazon delivery package into my 6 year olds hands! He took one look at the cover and decided he was gonna read it first. It’s since been in his bed for over a month. To say he loves it is a understatement. He reads what he can and ask for us to read “just one more page” about 100 times a night. Siblings have to fight to look at it 😂 The pictures are fun, the story draws you in and doesn’t lose any of what Homer told in the original poem.

I wanted a way to introduce my 1st grader to Greek mythology. She is an avid reader and loves graphic novels, and she devoured this in a day. Loved hearing her retell the funny parts - "Nobody" had hurt me!! Perfect way to introduce children to the classics. Now I'm on the hunt for more like this!

We ordered all of the Usborne books. They are great! My 10 year old approves

Wonderful graphics and story.

Homer’s Odyssey requires no introduction for hard-core fans of literature, but reading this great work in its original translation can be daunting to older kids and young adults. Fortunately, Punter and Fiorin retold this classic in a graphic novel. They maintain the basic storyline and illustrate the action with imagination.Fans of Dog Man and other graphic novels will appreciate this form of one of the best stories ever told in human language. The authors summarize the Odyssey’s action in brief form, which makes it readable in short time.The plot, classically retold, reflects a storyline appreciated by the West for millennia. Odysseus travels home from Troy to Greece, only to be blown off course. He upsets Poseidon, the sea god, and his seamen and ship encounters a series of otherworldly travails. Will Odysseus ever get home? And what kind of home awaits him? These questions haunt this book as the reader ponders the world’s richness. We ask ourselves, “In light of earth’s diversity and trappings, will we ever get home to peace?” Punter and Fiorin effectively cultivate these very human themes in older children and young adults. We should thank them for their contribution to English-reading civilization.
