Q: Which is it for 3/4 or 1/2 it says update and for range other than 3/4?

This latch can be used on any panel with the thickness between 0.675"-0.875" (17mm-22mm).

Q: must the lever be pulled to *close* the panel/drawer, or just close the panel/drawer and the latch will work independently of the lever?

Nope if installed correctly you just close the the panel & it will latch automatically.

Q: How much force is required to close? Would this work on a soft close drawer?

By adjusting the closeness of the latch and the bracket you should be able to control the force required. I doubt a soft close drawer slide would have enough force though.
