I have never worked on electronics before, though I know my way around tools (around the house). It's pretty straight forward. I didn't even watch a Youtube video before. Just look at what screws are in your way and remove those. Put them in a box, preferable white or light colored so you can find them again easily.The screws inside are a 3 star shape, which thankfully this kit comes with. Make sure you change out the white cable too. The original one is soldered on. I thought I had to keep the old one, but the old white cable didn't fit into the new joysticks. Then I realized the white cables needed to be changed also. The new white cables just click on. Very easy. Make sure everything is clean before you reassemble. If you spilled soda or whatever on your controller make sure it's all clean while you have it open!Wii U controller works great now. No more sticky controls.

The process for switching my broken joystick was pretty easy, made even easier by the included screwdriver. I do own the Y-shaped bit, but it was nice to not have to switch bits for the Philips head. My first part didn't work quite right (the vertical axis didn't function) but I went through the Amazon replacement process, and a new one came in a couple days that worked great. Thanks.

1 was bad & missing the wire. But wasn't a huge deal because I only needed 1 for my wii u anyways..

I was extremely eager to install these on my gamepad but to my dismay... defective. The left stick would only go up and left properly but trying to go down or right yielded no input whatsoever, I tried to calibrate this stick the recommended Nintendo way and that didn't make it any better. These sticks are awful. save yourself the money and look elsewhere for a replacement.

My Wii U purchased in 2013 started developing joystick drift issues a year ago. I didn’t think this was fixable given what I’ve heard about the dreaded joycon drift issues for Nintendo Switches. But, a search revealed very easy fixes for Wii Us by replacing the joysticks. I got these and replaced the battery while I was at it. The gamepad took some effort to disassemble, but there were Youtube videos that made it very simple. The joysticks were direct drop-in replacements. No soldering or any “electrical” skills were needed except unplugging and re-plugging some tiny ribbon cables. I’m so glad there are such easy fixes for the two biggest issues I was having with my aging Wii U gamepad: joystick drift and battery life. Now, I hope the gyroscope/accelerometer doesn’t give out anytime soon (a much more difficult repair)!

No more stick drift on the wii U gamepad. It was only on the left but i replaced both and they work great now

One of our control sticks was failing. Bought this, used Ifixit website Nintendo Wii U GamePad Analog Stick Replacement by Kim Arre as a guide, and less than an hour later we were up and running. Note: before installation it may seem like sticks will get stuck all the way in one direction. Once installed ours didn’t and work exact same as original. I also bought the XOOL Triwing Screwdriver for Nintendo - Professional Full Triwing Screwdriver Repair Tool Kit,3.8mm and 4.5mm Security Screwdriver Game Bit Tool Set for Nintendo Switch Joycon/Nintendo Wii/DS/DSL/GBA for some of the specialty tool. That worked fine as well.
