I don't use this to carry anything heavy but the site says, "The wicker basket is handcrafted on a metal frame, which is extremely sturdy and durable, suitable for outdoor and indoor use. "

I got brown so don't know about gray. Mine are both the same color. They're very nice. I recommend them.

The baskets are plenty sturdy. You will need water proof liner or pot if you intend for it to hold a planting. The material is biodegradable if soil or water is left to sit.
