Q: Shown is rectangular. Description says square. I need17 x 7 rectangular is that available?

The square refers to the deck cover not the actual water intake

Q: What are the dimensions of the wide mouth opening? Are they all a standard size?

For inground pools all 1085 skimmers are same size just letters and numbers after the 1085 define whether its for a concrete, fiberglass, or vinyl lined pool.

Q: i need to install this skimmer o my vinyl pool, it is a plywood wall 5/8 inch thick. i need to know if the gasket will work on the wall.

Well never heard of vinyl pool will plywood walls. But what u need to do is silicone gasket on skimmer and install a gasket on vinyl liner side with faceplate. Since the walls are 5/8 thick. You might have to get longer screws from the hard ware store because stock screws might not be long enough to go though face plate and 5/8 wall and into the skimmer. If you do that silicone the heck out of the plywood between skimmer and face plate so water don't saturate wood good luck
