The last DP album to feature original vocalist Rod Evans and original bassist Nick Simper. No real hints to the hard rock juggernauts they would soon become, but still a heady mix of late-'60s rock featuring plenty of fine Ritchie Blackmore solos and now 5 bonus tracks. The best known track here is their version of Donovan's Lalena.

A fantastic, fitting send off for the Mk 1 lineup
I honestly didn't know what to expect with this album when I ordered it & what a pleasant surprise. The band is clearly transitioning to a more rock oriented format but the 60s psychedelia, avant garde, sometimes Doors-like influenced prog rock is still there making it a great mashing of musical genres. It hasn't left my cd player & the ear worms make this a required daily listen to date. It really makes me understand why many fans prefer this lineup (I'm firmly Mk 2 but I get something out of each of the first 3 line ups).

An amazing album!!!
I, am a big Deep Purple fan, even though I was only nine years old when this, their self-entitled third album, was realeased. I got into 60's music big time in my early 20's, the Beatles, Doors, and Deep Purple, oh yes. I got into all of the 60's bands back then (the early 80's, which wasn't the best era for music, lets face it, lol). But what is strange is that for years I have owned most all of Deep Purple's albums, my favorites being their first two, Shades of Deep Purple and Book of Taliesan, but I never owned this, their third. Well, my GOD IT ROCKS!!! I LOVE IT!! i KNOW that I have heard some of these songs on this album, but to think that I never owned the actual album, humm. Psychedellic music has always been a favorite of mine, and the way that this band blends it with progressive rock is phenomonal! I DECIDED TO order it from a vendor in England, to my way of thinking this made it even more authentic, being that Deep Purple is from England, lol. Took longer, but it was worth it. Any Deep Purple fan will love this cd. And take it from me, if you love a band, REALLY LOVE A BAND, Always check out their ENTIRE CATALOG OF MUSIC!!!

rare
good shape even though it was left in the cold rain over night. Glad they used a bubbled plastic bag. I am impressed with amazon. They should ring a doorbell and let someone know.

In my opinion it is the best Deep Purple album produced
In my opinion it is the best Deep Purple album produced, one of the oldest and least known. I bought the vinyl album back in 1970 and it is still my favorite Deep Purple no matter the changes in personnel over the years.

Love It
Of the 3 earliest Deep Purple albums, I had only heard the song, "Hush" (which prompted me to buy these) until I sampled them and never knew them as a psychedelic band before, but as a huge fan, I love it all!
