It lets you have 2 removable 2.5" drives
This is really the best thing I've found for my larger PC. It has a strange BIOS that really won't let me dual boot so I put a different OS on each SSD and boot off of it. Saves so much time, I don't have to keep the PC cover off and manually swap SSD's inside the case. Since there are 2 slots, I can use the bottom one for backups or moving files or checking my other SSD's. As you can see in the pictures, there is a single power and 2 sata ports, I used sata1 and sata2. It's small but fit very tightly in my 3.5" bay. It only needed 1 or 2 screws to keep it in. You do need a firm push to get the drive inserted and when it is the button extends. Ejecting is also a firm push on the button. It says hot swap-able but don't remove your boot drive. It works and works great. I give it 2 thumbs up.

works great,
some times it is hard to get the drive all the way in. an with bios set to IDE mode I wouldn't recommend Hot swopping, one nice thing is it will allow you to use windows storage space, an learn how it operates

Just What I Needed
Over the years I've accumulated a lot of drives. This little gizmo took the space of an unused card reader, and installed easily in about 5 minutes. Open the case, couple of screws on the sides, plug in the SATA cables. Done.Someone complained that they didn't get proper speeds out of the SSD they plugged into it... Well, they're either plugged into the wrong SATA port (one that shares bandwidth with a PCI slot or whatever), or there's some other problem with their drive or setup. There is no possible way that the fault can be attributed to this device. It's basically just a connector mounted in a case. It's important to make sure you change the two SATA ports you're going to use in your BIOS to enable 'Hot Swap'. Otherwise, you'll have drive errors and possibly ruin the drive or data on it when you eject it. Also, take a look at your motherboard manual to make sure you know which two SATA plugs you should use for optimal performance. Some reviewers said that it took too much force to eject. I can tell you that I didn't experience that at all, and I have inserted and ejected 6 different SSDs of different thicknesses and brands (Corsair, Crucial, and Samsung) with no real resistance. I mean, there's a huge connector on the back of an SSD for the power and data plugs, so it's going to take a little force, but nothing that made me think it was going to break.I really like that there's a blue light on the eject button that lights up when there's a drive in it and it's connected to the system. That light blinks when it's reading or writing to the disk, which is nice, so you can tell when it's done.I like that the buttons go flush to the reader when the slot is empty. When a drive is in and seated, it goes flush to the front of the case, and the button pops out and become lit.Other drive readers like this have tiny doors that hang open and can snap off if you accidentally bump or brush against it. There are no fragile doors or door latches to break on this, so you can leave ejected disks in the slots without worrying about anything.I just love that I can now use all my spare SSDs as if they were thumb drives. Backups are simple now.You could even use this dock for the default storage location of all pictures/docs/videos/etc, and physically take everything personal with you whenever you walk away from your PC.Definitely one of the best additions to my PC that I've made in years.

WOW, a lot better than expected - 9.5MM high max drive
I installed this unit in a 5.25" bay with the adapter from icy dock as well. installation was quick and easy, as expected for a drive bay. I have had this installed now for probably close to a month in my PC, and it works fantastic. The drives insert and eject from the unit quite smoothly, and with just the right amount of force needed as well. I have inserted/removed drives from this at least 100 times since installing it, with no change in its operation. I never would have imagined that i would get any use out of a product like this, but it turns out I have amassed 5 2.5" drives from various laptops/pc ranging in size from 500GB to 2TB and they have all worked perfectly. It should be noted however that at least at the time of this review 2TB is going to be as big a drive as this unit can physically fit as it is limited to drives with a height of 9.5MM, and will not fit the larger 15MM high drives. In all the insert/removal windows 10 handled the eject/plug and play on insertion perfectly as well. This has made it very handy to archive things to storage that doesn't need to be accessible every day, but I don't want to delete either, such as older photos/home movies. All in all I am very impressed with the product and would gladly recommend it to anyone.

This dual bay removable SSD/HDD works great!
I tried a more well known version of dual-bay ejectable SSD/HDD dock and a design flaw made it very easy to break off the delicate center support bar in the SATA connectors (which I did).Device-side SATA connectors are apparently supposed to have some kind of surrounding wall in addition to the center bar for support. The other manufacturer chose to eliminate that however from the two data connectors, presumedly to reduce the height to fit in 3.5" drive bay. The ICY DOCK however includes the surrounding wall so, with reasonable care, the cables snap in securely without dificulty.Be aware that the eject buttons on the front of the ICY DOCK take substantial pressure to eject the drive. I think that's good to prevent accidental ejections. But it is unusual and could be a source of frustration to any not aware of it.The 500GB Samsung 860 EVO drive (6.8mm high) I'm using only occupies about 2/3 of the height of a bay and seems to work fine even if the drive is not exactly horizontal when inserted. (It can also be straightened after insertion.) The drive is recognized by the BIOS and Linux software if inserted before powerup. Haven't tested hot-swapping yet.I'll update this review after partitioning and using it for awhile.

Easy to use, works great
4 stars instead of 5 because there is no retention mechanism. The drives are held securely enough. They're somewhat hard to eject as a result. The ejector arm is plastic, but fairly thick, so hopefully it is up for the abuse. This works great for swapping out SSDs on a desktop system.
