Very substantial item.
Does the job, very robust.

Good big fat spanner!
I was a little surprised at how big this looks and what great value - all that metal for such a low price. It does the job, and the advantage over the flat type spanners is that it can reach in to foam and is less likely to fall off when tapped with a hammer. My only minor concern with it is that the dimensions are a little generous and I am not sure how hard you could tap it without it slipping. However, it works well, so far. Just make sure that you don't do up a new fitting too tight. Better to seal it with some Fernox (silicon) Seal rather than overtighten it.

OK spanner
Does the job, but a little loose fitting.

Will do the job, just needed help from some heat.
The immersion element being removed was in situ for 20+years.... finally it failed. This immersion socket fitted the immersion head with a little play but did lock on tight. The play was actually a good thing when you have to hit the torque bar with a hammer causing it to bite on tight. A quick backwards tap and it releases. In the end it was locked in with joint compound etc and would not budge, At least not without risking tank damage. What I did...Closed the tank inlet feed.Isolate the tank electrics.Took the pressure off by opening the hot water taps and/or take a little water out via the tank drain. Left the tank full for stability.Took the immersion cap off and remove the thermostat. For about 90Secs, heat the immersion element with a blow torch to soft the plumber joint compounds.Located the socket and tapped the torque bar. When it started to move the torque bar allows me to exert equal pressure from both sides. it unscrewed without further resistance.
