How long is the cord? Description says 4.7"!! Is that correct?

No. They are 48 inches from ear buds to the tip of the plug. The actual cord length from where it splits to the ear buds to where it meets the plug is 32 inches.

How comfortable are these when laying on your side?

Very comfortable. I didn't think I'd be able to sleep with them in, but they don't bother me at all. Even when nothing is playing I leave them in.
