When I opened this bottle I was hit by unpleasant smell mixed with lemon scent. Is it normal for it to have some sort of unpleasant scent?

Yes, it does have an unusual smell to it.

It's just fish oil. The claim to improve mood is based on what they claim is a high EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid, a type of Omega 3) content. It looks like the EPA is 50% of the total Omega 3 (1000mg out of a 2000mg serving) and the fish oil I now take (Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega) has approximately the same ratio (650mg of EPA ourt of 1280mg total Omega 3).

Does it need to be refrigerated?

I did not refrigerate it. Cool dry storage.

How many gels in one serving?

1000 mg epa, and 150 mg dha. It's for people who want a low dha, high epa formula. One serving is two capsules.
