No other product like it on the market!
I purchased this tools for a project we are doing which involved removing and replacing electrical panels (loadcenters) in a 53 unit apartment complex. After completing just a few panels, using a utility knife and a Sawzall, I decided to look for a saw that would expedite the process and stumbled onto this Makita on Amazon.Th price made me a little apprehensive however, I went for it and it was the best thing I did for the project. The saw reduced our drywall cutting time immensely and all the guys enjoyed using it..It paid for itself the first day we used it.Excellent Tool! Just a little pricey as well as the blades. However, we completed the whole project with one blade!GREAT TOOL! Only one like it on the market.

I flattened the teeth back out with a chisel and hammer and it still works but I dont think it will take too many hits like this. You can use 18mm snap blades in ...
This saw is a serious time saver. It cuts 5/8 sheetrock at about 6" per second without pushing it too hard. It is MUCH quieter and faster than using an oscilating tool. The grip angle works well for vertical and overhead use.A few things to note if you are considering this saw:The Makita replacement blades are almost $15 a piece. They do work well but the first screw I hit bent and rounded off about 4 teeth. It still functioned but made a noticeably wider cut and more dust. I flattened the teeth back out with a chisel and hammer and it still works but I dont think it will take too many hits like this. You can use 18mm snap blades in this thing, I used Tajimas rock hard edge blades. You snap off 3 sections of blade and reverse the little hold-down on the blade holder. I tried cheap blades and they shattered when I tightened them so you may have to find blades that work for you. You also have to manually set the depth on the blade when it is at the bottom of its down stroke. They seem to cut about as fast as the Makita blades. Be weary that you have ~5/8 of razor blade sticking out the bottom of the tool. Here is my biggest gripe with this thing: The plastic shroud with the dust hose attachment becomes instantly coated in gypsum dust and you can no longer see the blade whether you have it hooked up to a vacuum or not. This compounds the problem (not an issue if you are just making a rough tape-able cutout) that neither the Makita blade or the snap razor blades seem to follow the V groove cut line indicator. I found that if you remove the plastic dust shroud that I could make absolutely perfect straight cuts by watching the blade. It does not produce much dust while cutting so for all but furnished interior work I will just leave the cover off. That said, this is a great tool and will save you a lot of time.

If only I'd known about this tool sooner.
This is an amazing tool. On the surface it seems a little gimmicky, but it's awesome. I bought it thinking it's biggest claim to fame would be fairly dust free cuts into drywall with dust extraction, and also cutting to a specific depth. But it that isn't the half of it. It cuts super thin cuts, so thin that you have to work the piece you cut out around a bit to get it back in again. You can cut a piece out and put it back in and there is virtually no seam. Clean up the paper a little and mud, no tape needed, the screws are a bigger problem than the seams. I also thought the vacuum was going to be an import part of dust free operation, nope, pretty minimal drywall dust with no vacuum attached, and the cut is so thin the little bin it has takes surprisingly long to fill up. Is it expensive for a one trick pony, yea kinda, but it really does that trick well.

Better than expected in mosty
This tool works better than expected. It is almost 100% dustless with a vaccum. It is still easy to manuver and cut straight lines as the hose swivel does not interfere with movements. As a side note it can be used without a vaccum for short runs because the vendor supplies a cap for the hose swivel and the tool fan blows dust into the dust container.I see almost no dust when using this tool and it makes it worth the price. The blade adjustment could be better/easier.The bad is Makita does not give any vaccum hose adapters in the box. I had to pay $30 for an adapter to my 1 1/2 hose. Geez. This is a niche product so the blades are expensive. I only found drywall blades and none of the wood blades it is supposed to work with. On the good side the blades seems to be lasting a long time. The tool is very light and easy to handle. Makita seems to have fallen behind on the adjustments of their tools. I have other tools that are a lot faster to set height and angle.

Worth every penny! Zero dust! Made in Japan!
After tearing apart my basement I discovered my biggest complaint with remodeling and doing dry wall is the dust!I began my search for an easy method of cutting existing drywall with a dust collector and came across the Makita XDS201Z. I was skeptical at first, but always spending more time than I care to admit researching, I decided to pull the trigger. The saw is comfortable in hand, and smaller than I expected. Build quality is very high with my only complaint being that the blade guard fits a bit loose on its holster.I added a small amount of felt around the open edges of the dust bin and mated the saw to my shopvac. I was shocked after making my first cuts. Nothing! No visible dust!Cutting performance is good with the included blade. And if you set the blade depth correctly, you don't have to worry about what's behind the drywall. It will just barely cut the paper backing so it won't mar studs or cut any wiring or plumbing. It already saved my bacon as one of the walls I was opening up had an unknown electrical line behind one of the walls I was working on. The blade will easily cut through metal corner reinforcement as well.In Summary, I strongly recommend this if you are working in areas that people still need to live and work, have an aversion to drywall dust, or just like keeping your work area as clean as possible.ANDThis saw is MADE IN JAPAN.PS: Vacuum connection is 1-1/4" in diameter.
