16:1 is a bit optimistic! But if you make it a bit stronger, you’ll get the authentic taste.
The recommended ratio for diluting is an optimistic 16:1. I found this much too weak, I eventually settled on about 12:1 for a strong tasting chip shop or Pie & Mash vinegar. Even at that ratio it still works out great value. Add a couple of dried red chillies to give it an extra kick!

Smells strong, but it almost tasteless
Initially, this product seemed promising. The concentrated essence has a very strong smell and deep colour, as you would expect. However, once diluted the taste is very weak. The essence is labelled as 16:1, which to me would mean 16 parts water to 1 part essence. However, the label also states that the 1 litre of essence makes 16 litres of condiment. That would suggest 15 parts water to 1 part essence (15:1). Despite the ambiguity, creating a slightly stronger mix seems to make little difference to the taste. The aroma does have hallmarks of that classic "chippy vinegar", it's just a shame (and a bit puzzling) that its taste is so much weaker than the smell.
