Don’t even know if it works because when I pulled the tab out from the battery bit I found out that there wasn’t even a battery in there

Ok, but not for anything mission critical
This is very cheap plastic and whilst it will take measurements you need a very steady hand as the visible result will change with the slightest movement.It is also very fussy about which batteries it will take, I tried 6 that were all exactly the same, 5 worked only if I left the battery cover off whilst the 6th worked only if the cover was on, I see no rhyme nor reason to this.My use case for this isn't super important so it will do for now, but if you need accuracy every time I would look for something better made.

Does the job well
I got this to measure the thickness of the rotors on my bicycle. Does a great job. Cheap and effective. Shame a battery doesnt come with it, so suggest you order one if buying.

This arrived without a battery or battery cover - should have sent it back, but forgot
Avoid. Feels cheaply made and arrived with parts missing.

No battery and no obvious way of fitting one; straight in the bin.
It comes with one of those little tabs sticking out of (presumably) a battery compartment. When you pull it out it should allow the contact to touch the battery.Either the battery is dead (very old stock?) or there isn't one! Bottom line is it doesn't work.No obvious way of getting at the battery compartment so it looks like it is a disposable item!!!Straight in the bin.
