1502 Golden Star Screw Sickle, Made in Japan

We needed a second one within days.
Needed, not wanted. Once we got one of these in hand, we needed to have one within reach everywhere. It's sharp and great for weeding/hoeing up close in rows, but also for making little seed furrows and digging small holes for dropping seedlings into a bed and chopping the twines that hold a bale of straw together and about a hundred other uses daily when you have a big garden. These two hoes float around and end up in different places, but with the red handle we always seem to be able to spot one of them at least. So, ok, we don't actually keep one "within reach" always. But the swearing starts if we can't find one pretty quickly when we need it. Maybe a third one wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Hubby loves this!
My hubby needed this so badly since his other one is "back"at home". He has used it quite often. It is well made, easy to use and comfortable in his hand! It's a keeper!

Couod become an heirloom
The book looks fabulous and ancient. I wanted to do medieval illuminations on it. The pages are really dark. Only absolute black ink works. Maybe I will try Acrylics.

You'll be glad you got this
Great little weeder! I was a bit skeptical about getting this as I have no much other gardening tools. But boy am I glad I tried it out. I used the nejiri-gama for the first time to clean up some weeds around my flowers bed before putting down more mulch and it worked like a dream. Made my least favorite chore a bit more bearable.

Ease of use. No hand fatigue
This is an excellent hand tool. I saw another review that was negative. From what I could tell that reviewer was not using it for its intended use. This is far more ergonomic than the Martha Stewart weeded, which is more money and resulted in muscle fatigue when I used it.This weederwas so good I bought two more. It is ergonomic and was not painful to utilize which is an issue with elderly hands. The blade is sharp and strong. The tilted angle of the blade makes it easier to use. The grip of the handle is more natural and conforms better to my grip than other seeders. The price is very reasonable for the quality. After buying the Martha Stewart product and being so disappointed I was leery of getting this one. This weeder has restored my faith in this tool. It is excellent!

I'm concerned about the weld.
The two I received seem quite good, but two of the previous ones I purchased broke at the weld just recently. I have been buying this little gem for years and this is the first time I have had problems with it's sturdiness. The tool is great and works like a charm, and I have given a number of them to friends as gifts. I hope the quality of the weld measures up to my expectation.

Ease of use.
Works very well. I've already weeded out one flower bed. 3-4 more beds to go. We'll see how the edge holds up before I have to sharpen it.

A truly indispensable hand tool.
I've owned a number of these over the last 12 years. The weakness of its design is that the wooden handle can come off with heavy usage, and eventually it's hard to keep on. However, I take mine to a welding shop and have them put on a "permanent handle," which solves that issue. I don't do this until I have a problem with the original handle.Having said that, I think this is the most indispensable hand tool I own. It's extremely versatile. Once you own one you can never go back. You HAVE to have at least one or two spare ones, in case you misplace one. I can't imagine a visit to my garden without a little Nejiri-Gama hand hoe. These are outstanding for detailed weeding. The attached picture shows my improvised handles, which will never wear out.
