They smoothest writing experience you can hope to have.
The Pentel Energel bold (1.0) pens are THE smoothest pens available anywhere. They make Pilot G2s look cheap by comparison. Their ink also dries up much faster on paper compared to most other gel pens and they are also extremely reliable. I have used several Pentel Energels in all sizes and have still to come across one that skipped even a little or failed to work on the first stroke. The 0.7 (regular width) energels are sold locally in India, they use the identical refills that the RTX branded pens (which are not sold locally and need to be imported) use, but come in a simple plastic body. The same writing experience but in a simpler plastic body. They can be bought for a really cheap price and I encourage anyone who wants an extremely smooth writing experience to try them out. This review is for the bold 1.0 mm Energels which are more expensive since they need to be imported. Bold pens always tend to be smoother than their thinner counterparts and this is the Rolls Royce of gel pens, you need to use it to realize just how amazingly smooth a gel pen can be. I hope Pentel realizes that India is a massive market and that Indians value quality products as much as anyone else and bring their entire range of pens here. For now, if you don't want to pay a premium price for imported pens I urge you to try their Indian (0.7) series - they come in several vibrant colors too. This brand has permanently ended my longstanding hunt for the best gel pen.

refillable
The best thing about these pens (besides that they don't smudge and come in awesome colours) is that you can buy refills and save on constantly throwing away the pen itself. I'm all for all products that are refillable. It's a small thing when only a few people do it, but the refills are cheap and if society operated with only refills of pens, there would be a lot less plastic waste in the world.

the BEST pens!!!!
These are by far the best pens I've ever tried. I've used the blue and black one for almost 3-4 years (I bought refills). I have bought this countless times as gifts for others. They're simply the best. Every colour ink is so bright and vivid, and these pens are by far the smoothest writing experience. AND YOU CAN BUY REFILLS. These energel pens shouldn't be overlooked.

Work very well but...
In my search for eco friendly refillable gel pens I decided to try these because I have used Sarasa and Pilot G7 pens for years. I like .5 and some .7 pens. The Energel seems to be the smoothest writing of those 3 brands but it is a fat .7 in that it appears to me to write a thicker line than the other .7 pens. I also like to have refills to save money and resources and Amazon.ca does have refills for some of these colors but you have to buy them in bulk. I can't find Sarasa refills and G7 refills are more expensive than buying a new pen on Amazon so I'm not sure what is going on with that... I do like the Pilot G7 pens a little better because they have a bit finer point and I will order those refills directly from the company in the U.S. the next time I go down because I can get any color in any quantity I want at a fraction of the price.
