Do i need to add any worm castings or compost?

No. California Hot Soil IS compost. It is NOT soil. You cannot put seeds or seedlings in this. Plants must have at least 4-6 nodes before getting near this. It's strong. I used it in the 'just add water' method. Go to the California Hot Soil web site and you'll get the details on how to use it properly. I bought the 4 pot KIT, not just bags.

Is there a recommended soil media?

Fox farm is a great support - Happy frog or the potting soil are both great

Why don’t you just mix all the soil together? Why is the super soil only at bottom?

The super soil stays at the bottom so it can deliver the needed nutrients without ever having to use added nutrients.
