Such a unique rom-com that I read in one sitting!
Yes, yes, yes. The Roommate was everything I wanted and my already high expectations were met and then some. Everything about this from the main characters, to the witty banter, to the hot and steamy scenes were absolutely everything. I don’t even know how to put into proper words how much I adored this book besides just saying I loved it over and over again.Clara is a rich girl from New York who seems to have it all, except the love of her life. She has always been prim and proper and done what her family has asked, but when her lifelong crush calls and asks her to move out to California with him she packs up and goes. Only one issue, she gets there and Everett, her crush, lets her know he is going on tour with his band. She will still be living at his place, but with Josh a guy Everett found on craigslist. Clara doesn’t want to run back home to her family and feel like a failure so she toughens it out and actually likes nice guy Josh. Except she finds out what Josh does for a living; he is a porn star. Not just any porn star, he has a different approach with women and wants them to have their needs met on and off the camera.Needless to say, this was a fun and such a unique rom-com. I loved Clara and how shy and innocent she was. When she finds out Josh is a porn star is actually hilarious and with Josh being so confident with his body and sex, it just made the atmosphere so funny and steamy. I obviously enjoyed the romance, but I loved the plot in this book as well. Clara is finally on her own and gets to decide what she actually wants to do with her life, and Josh is being underpaid and wants better than what he is getting. When the two pair up and want to accomplish bringing down the sleazy bosses of the porn industry I was digging it.While I wish Josh and Clara could have had some more love connection parts, I still enjoyed every minute of this book. I just felt like so much of it was sexy and steamy that I didn’t feel the slow burn love as much as I usually do in a rom-com. I loved the witty banter and just the outright really funny parts that made me giggle. I can’t wait to read more of this author in the future, because if the books are anything like this one, they will be complete 5/5 stars from me.

A ~steamy~ romance with great perspective!
This book was such a fun read and definitely out of the norm of traditionally published romance characters. I love reading romance because I get to read about characters whose lives and perspectives are very different from my own. Let’s just say Josh and I live very different lives, but it was so fun to see all of the unique challenges both he and Clara faced throughout the romance.Clara came from an extremely wealthy family, and with that comes a deeply ingrained pressure to preserve her public appearance. She constantly had to weigh what her family would think about something versus how she actually feels about it. It was nice to see her grow into her own person throughout the story. She found creative ways to make the best of a situation that may have been uncomfortable to her at first glance.Josh really brought a unique perspective of the sex work industry. I appreciate that he focused a positive light on the people and thoroughly questioned the job’s business side. I hadn’t previously thought about the contract negotiations that would go on behind the scenes or the power that the most prominent companies would have if you decided to walk away from the job. I also really enjoyed the relationships he worked through with his family and how his parents handled themselves.I have to shoutout to the side characters. They really could have had a make or break role in this relationship, and they constantly took the high road. It was refreshing to see friends and even exes supporting each other and avoiding petty drama!Overall, the romance was sweet, and I was rooting for Josh and Clara the entire book. It was an unexpected couple who then had to deal with how others’ perspectives may impact their future. I enjoyed the work that Josh and Clara did together and how it questioned taboos in relationships. Lastly, I was really left thinking about how someone’s career can often define their worth in society, and at the end of the day, a job is a job. It does not make someone inherently better or worse. If nothing else, this was a sweet and steamy romance that brought about some questions of my own perspectives.I’d recommend it for anyone looking to read with an open mind from a new perspective. If you like a book about roommates, this is one you will love!4/5 Stars
