13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

Heroes At War!
Nothing funny about the action scenes, the fire, the death of the ambassador. This is some of the best combat action ever put on film. But the outdated sexism, racism, and machismo of the film's vision comes across in many strange and inadvertently hilarious ways. You know the loyal native translator who loves the big, tough operators? You see the arc he has, going from a goofy outsider, to a shaky new recruit, to *almost* one of us? Well, it's a great story. And it has a name. Two words, people: GUNGA DIN!!!!Now about the infamous "crying wife" scene at the drive-thru window of McDonald's. It's meant to be sad, but comes across as grating and blatantly insincere. And unintentionally funny. And there are a couple of reasons why. First of all, anyone who has ever deployed overseas has heard plenty of guys say how *glad* they are to be getting away from the wife and kids. That's a big part of the draw. This movie pretends that side of things doesn't exist -- then makes the wife a great big nagging cry baby. And this is not a new thing. Fifty years ago there was a classic book called "Love And Death In The American Novel" by Leslie Fiedler. And he said that all of American literature is basically men in flight from women. Men seeking death as an escape from sex. Men seeking families of men to avoid building a family with a woman.Well, see, this is what this movie really celebrates. You have a lad who keeps *saying* he has to get back to his wife and kids, that he has to pay off his insurance, trim the hedges, and blah blah blah blah blah. But then, you have his buddies, always joking, always laughing, ready to die for each other, no nagging women around, just the guys, lifting weights, joking around, watching movies, goofing on funny stories, living kind of easy and natural with no nagging women around.Come back to the Annex again, Huck honey!

Great movie
I watched this movie long ago. To test a new Fire TV stick, I happened to pick this movie. Then, couldn't help but watched it entirely one more time. The movie is based on a true event that occurred in Libya in 2012: the Banghazi attack. This preplanned attack was significant to the US, as it caused the US to lose one of its highest-ranking diplomats - an ambassador. The movie is fairly accurate in replicating the event and retelling the story. The drama, the buildup, the acting, the camera work, and the overall realism are all very well done. However, the movie, though based on a true event, follows the same American heroes saving the world narrative. As a result, controversies are inevitable, which hurts the overall rating and acceptance of this movie. In my opinion, the movie should have been edited to clarify that the seemingly widespread hostility in Libya towards the US and Americans around the time of this attack - as implied in the movie - was actually not true. The movie should also have mentioned that it was unknown Libyans who found and rescued the unconscious ambassador and transported him to a nearby hospital, where the doctor did best in reviving him. Also, it was unknown Libyans who transported the ambassador's body from the hospital to the airport. Ignoring this part of the truth - in the way the movie does - was probably considered necessary to draw attention away from the fact that the US failed to protect the ambassador and later failed to rescue him.

Great Movie!
13 Hours is a great movie! The story was a very good story about save lives, and how our various military service members make some of the best heroes since they selflessly risk their own lives in service to ours, and how they really love their families. The action was also super epic and entertaining, so I defintely liked that. Without doubt, I'd say 13 Hours is an awesome film worth the watch!

Why didn't they show a clip of Obama partying in Vegas?
The movie was done very well. However, I would have included the President of the United States telling the WORLD that he ORDERED the US Military to do everything POSSIBLE to save American lives. We all know Obama went missing during the long firefight(s). That he went to Vegas as the Campaigner in Chief as opposed to being the Commander in Chief when Americans were being attacked on US SOil! He partied with Katy Perry in Vegas. All so he could KEEP his job. I'd like to know why he didn't do his job?For example, during the movie, it was very clear that NO Military assets were sent to assist. That there was a Drone (UNARMED?) overhead filming the attacks. That drone, I believe was replaced and still, the drone sent was unarmed? WHY? I would have had the question asked about the Cross Border Authority. Did Obama sign one? Did he or didn't he? If he did, why hasn't any military leader been fired for disobeying a direct order from the CiC? We recently saw a military leader lose his job over the captured US Sailors by Iran incident. How far away were the members of the 10th Special Forces (A)? In the movie, we see that they were called to be a QRF for Benghazi. Why didn't they get sent in?"Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group known as C-1/10 that stages out of Stuttgart, Germany, C-1/10 that was activated is under the operational command of Special Operational Command Europe. The In-Extremis Force was fully manned and ready on the tarmac in Sigonella, Sicily, 45 minutes away from Benghazi. They were awaiting orders to launch, but that their rescue mission was held on the tarmac for 12 hours because the White House refused to issue “Cross Border Authority." cited @ [...]The movie should have had leaders searching for Obama. Where was he? Why didn't his military obey his ORDER that EVERY POSSIBLE be done? Why didn't the media ask those questions? Why didn't the Obama WH produce a Cross Border Authority letter?I was so disgusted with the lack of support. The abandoning of Americans in a place they were sent to by Obama.I didn't give 5 stars because I believe that Mr Bay didn't want to attack Obama. Clearly, he hinted all around it. The movie should have included shots of Obama after the meeting that was prescheduled long before the attacks. Also, the FACT that the CiC blamed a Youtube video (movie calls out that lie when the DS security said they didn't hear any protesting). So, it is a good movie, yet, one that should make any real American's blood boil because of the lack of support from the military Obama created. Someone should have stepped up. We saw what the "Contractors" did in the film. They did what was needed to try and save American lives. They waited as long as they could. Had they left earlier, the out come might have been different. We might never know. Although, we do know that we had a POTUS, the Commander in Chief that was missing and later, out partying trying to keep his job. A job that should have kept him in DC doing his job!
