The Lid does Not screw on but neither does it Snap on. The “silicon” gasket on the cover holds it in place. There is a 3/4 inch plastic “tab” protruding from the edge of the cover for leverage to remove the cover.

Q: If you don’t want to snap cover on when you drink coffee will the rim be very hot

I use this mug every morning without the cover and the rim is never hot. No part of the mug gets hot, which I like, but you have to remember that the drink itself may be very hot because the feel of the mug won’t tell you that.

Q: If can sip or drink without lid?

Yes, it can be used without the lid but the insulation is better with the lids on.
