Totally Unblendable
I wish I'd listened to the reviewer who said that these pastels are difficult to blend... i was swayed by the other reviews. And because I also use the Faber Castell coloured pencils, and get on fine with them, I thought these would also be fine. But no. Not fine at all. They're absolutely impossible to blend and just streak horribly. And yes I am using suitable paper so I can't blame that. And I've been drawing and painting for many years so it's not that I am a beginner either. Very disappointing. Money down the drain. I think I will give them to my grandsons for Christmas. :( I have since bought a box of 50 Pentel Oil Pastels for £3.18 (which is outstanding value!) and which blend far more easily.

Another studio grade product for the beginner or student - hard and cheap
Like others, one concurs and find these impossible to work. They don't layer easily - after two or three, they are so hard, they will disturb the layers underneath and actually move colour about (and I've tried several papers to test, and amazed to find it actually performs best on smooth cartridge paper, anything too grainy makes them crumb all over the place). As for these pastel 'crumbs' which can be a problem with all pastels, they are a serious problem with these pastels - not only impossible to remove from the paper, but impossible to re-blend into your work in progress. In general, they don't blend easily unless you're glazing colours over one another with the pastel itself (not your fingers, stumps).Otherwise, some colours are denser than others in pigment, some are nearly transparent like a glazing colour.A major embarrassment for Faber Castell, a maker of fine products, this is not one of them.

Good value, reasonable quality, not as good as Sennelier.
I bought these mainly for an Orange colour which my Senneliers did not have to my liking and for additional colours. They are not as smooth and creamy as Sennelier, however they are much cheaper. The Orange met with my approval. If one is new to oil pastels I would suggest buying a small set of both Sennellier and Faber Castell to experience the difference. I much prefer Sennellier, but we are all different. I mainly use oil pastel for painting plain air, I always get good results and can work quickly with them. I find oil pastel the best medium for using outdoors. I am happy with this purchase.

Fantastic vibrant colours with a soft application
Fantastic vibrant colours with a soft application, for an amazing price. The box of 12 on other sites was twice as much as this box of 24, so I was very happy to find this. The pastels are a very good consistency and mix fairly easily, they also can be smudged quite easily in my opinion. I love all the colours and would recommend to any one who feels like exploring a different more expressive medium. Service was quick and the pastels arrived in perfect condition. Thank you!

Crayons for adults!
These are as good as this company always are. However unless it is a young person (I don't mean child) experimenting you really need 3 times the number of be really impressed and plan to be very dedicated. Oil pastels are really no different to a child's crayon and just as they have their limits so do these. One can oil with other things and get a very different look and you can use fingers to create. If you are at college or uni see if anyone else has some and try them for they can be more than they are worth, or you will love them and make wonderful things!
