Q: How easy is this to clean? I don't suppose the bottom comes off, does it?

bottom does not come off. I had no luck with birds using it. Did not work Jeff H

Q: Will the feeder keep out "bully birds" like grackles and crows?

My Experience is that yes it will keep out the bully birds, however it also seems to keep out all of the rest of the birds. While I have seen finches land on the cage, I have not seen any that were able to get in and eat.

Q: How did you do the piece of wood on top so the squirrels couldn't lift the top? My problem is the squirrels lift the top and eat the clear plastic.

I don't have a piece of wood on the top of my feeder. It's hanging out over the railing from my 2nd floor apartment so the squirrels really have to work to get on it. And on those rare occasions when they do, they have to hold on with all 4 paws so they can't get the seed out and they can only stick their nose in so no way they can eat the seed that fall into the pan. So far they haven't been able to get the top off. Good luck on your quest!

Q: Has anyone experienced starlings getting inside?

Most starlings will be too large to fit into this feeder. Chickadees and other birds of similar size will fit well and enjoy the feeder.
