Great investment for any hunter or anyone looking to make ...
Great investment for any hunter or anyone looking to make your on jerky. This allows me to take the hamburger meat that’s left over from processing and turn it into amazing jerky. The one lb capacity version is fine with me as my hamburger is usually packed in 2 lb logs so I would have to reload even with the larger one. The stuffing rod that came with it helps get as much meet packed in here as you can get. Jerky slices are the perfect size to pack for a quick and healthy snack.

Sturdy, servicable jerky gun
Bought this to go with the dehydrator I purchased. I've only used the jerky extruder and don't really plan on using the other attachments, so take that into account in the review. This is a sturdy unit and I'm pleased. I'm not sure why the jerky strips are supposed to be as narrow as they are (I'm used to seeing commercial versions of jerky that are closer to an inch wide) Maybe it helps make sure they get dried? Dunno. Otherwise, the unit fills easily, the trigger isn't hard to pull, and the unit comes apart for cleaning easily. I've used it for multiple batches so far, and don't see why it wouldn't last for years. Cool thing about the plastic is that you can see how much is left in the barrel and plan accordingly when laying out the trays. Now that I've used this, I'm glad I didn't bother shelling out for a metal one.

My kids LOVE the jerky I make!
I used to buy expensive specialty jerky for my kids, but when I sent them mine, they preferred the texture of mine much more, and it was made from ground beef! The ground turkey did not pass the test, as it didn't hold the flavor. But I have so much fun making a batch of jerky and sending it to them. That's one way to get them to call home, LOL!

Worked perfectly for the first year.
I used the product twice during the first year on deer. Maybe I was squeezing too hard, but during the third instance the end piece that forms the jerky split and half and became unusable. I am now left to only being able to shape the jerky with a round shape.

Awesome for your serious Jerky maker!
WOW! This is so awesome! I used it to make some turkey jerky and it works like a dream! Love that it holds so much and it takes much less time. I had a little cheap Nesco jerky gun, and it only holds a small amount. It's easy to clean too with the brushes it includes. Well made and easy to use. It's a winner!

both came out great, but I think the smoker jerky tasted nicer
Bought this when my son got his 1st deer. I have traditionally made muscle jerky in a little chief smoker. My boys wanted "soft" jerky so we tried this for the 1st time. I made the jerky and did both smoker and oven "cooking". both came out great, but I think the smoker jerky tasted nicer. Solidly built, I thought it would be thin, cheap plastic, but it is a thick solid plastic and hold up well to occasional use. I have used it 5 times now and don't see any problems with is breaking. Love making jerky with hamburger and my boys love the "soft" jerky.

Missing parts! Check your box right way! Be prepared to return it.
Bought this jerky gun to use in my classroom to teach kids how to make jerky. (Hamburger jerky). Well I did not open the box up until the day I needed it. Well it says it comes with multiple tips when I opened the box it only had the wide nozzle tip. Not ideal for hamburger jerky. As I really needed the flat tipped nozzle. So I ended up having to use it. As I had 75 students (3 classes of kids) all expecting to make jerky yesterday. So now I have a unreturnable gun. That I most likely will never use because I do not have the right tip. Very upset teacher!

Had hoped for better
I was disappointed with this.I expected this to be a real nice unit, since all I had ever used was the cheap plastic thing that came with my Jerky Express set. When that broke (after six or so years, so that cheap thing lasted a long time) I thought I'd try this. It's nice that it holds more beef, but that also makes it more awkward to use over time, and the size is a bit of a hindrance when actually pressing out the beef.I don't like the nozzle - I have to see if I can find a different one, these are far too thin, not quite half as thick as the ones I've made with the old plastic beast, and they shrivel to nearly nothing after dehydrating. It came with a brush to clean the inside, but I didn't need it. And the stomper to press the meat in works alright. But the nozzle - too much meat left in it when you're done, the gun's plunger won't go into it. I found the stomper, when reversed, will press in and force a little bit out of the nozzles, and wrap the rest around the handle so you can peel it off and lay it flat. I wish you didn't have to do some workaround though, since that's a good bit of beef it leaves behind. The plus side is that the trigger works well, the plunger moves smoothly. I just wish it came with a better nozzle.
