This is a great little book and I am giving it 5 stars
This is a great little book and I am giving it 5 stars. The info in it is fantastic and I'm still going through it.But I feel the need to mention that it is much smaller than I expected. The first two Wooden Books I had are Quadrivium and Designa. Those two are very thick books. So I expected the same with this one, but it is much thinner and I have to admit I was a bit dissapointed when I first received it in the mail. However, I'm still giving it 5 starts as the info is great and the book is exactly as it was described. The issue was with my expectation.

Islamic Design - a wonderful history lesson into design and origin
This is a book I bought which is part of a series of books on design and geometrics. I really loved this one, which it's many designs and appreciate the intricacy of their detail and intention. If you like design and are interested in the detail behind it. This is for you. I have purchased a total of 5 books in the Wooden Series.

Great little book!
Well-organized, clear illustrations and text, and a reasonable price. I like the small size, and I think the black and white format lends itself well to the subject matter. Highly recommended!

Interesting book, but...
I have made changes to my original review, hoping that it will now be more balanced. This book gives an interesting taste of Islamic design, but it is not clear what the author intended to accomplish. The subtitle is "A genius for geometry," and the book does show many designs that are both geometrically cleaver and very beautiful. But the book consists of a series of very short chapters that have little or no continuity, and I would be surprised to find anyone has succeeded in reading the book through from beginning to end. Readers hoping to to make a start at Islamic design will almost certainly need the help of other books. On the other hand, the many drawings Daud Sutton made for this book are outstandingly beautiful. I think that alone justifies purchasing the book. It also contains a lot information about Islamic design, much of it not to be found elsewhere; and the diagrams and explanations are very good. It may not be the book to begin a study of Islamic design, but it is a very valuable, and very beautiful, contribution to the subject.

Really good book for understanding Islamic design
I am very pleased with this book. It is a concise description of the basics (wow it doesn't stop with basics) of this rose-style art. Going to use in in a lot of my art.

Great reference
From this book I have learnt to draw shapes of different sizes and shapes which I use as the basis for designs in my patchwork. This has taken the frustration out of six, eight, five etc sections within circles for accurate designing

A lot of info and images are packed into these great little books! Great resources! Nice hardbound books too - They hold up to lots of use. Great for school art studios.

Very small format
It would be a good book if it were printed larger. I couldn't see the details as I was trying to learn some patterns using the compass. It's a tiny book in thickness too... Just not that much information although the layout is nice. I think it's better to buy a digital version of it to follow along the instructions.
