Great capacity in a small format
This unit can record essentially five times the capacity of my laptop drive, allowing me to make several backups before I have to delete a few of them to clear space. It works fine, and is quick and easy to use with suitable backup software.

Don't waste your money
This is now my second hard disk after the first one had failed. This 5TB external drive misses the mark in several ways.First, it fails to respond after roughly 30 minutes of the computer being on. Data thoroughput is extremely subpar only averaging between 15 and 30 kb per second. In comparison, other connected drives to USB 3.0 are averaging between 5 and 15 megabytes per second. The computer is not the issue as other drives function fine. But being that this is the second 5 TB drive from Western digital that I had to buy, patterns began to emerge.Second, I have to constantly unplug and replug the USB cable when this drive decides it no longer wants to be recognized by the computer.Third, the power requirements of this drive exceed what most, if not nearly all, computers and powered USB hubs provide.High speed USB 3.0 ports are fine for other devices, but this power hungry paperweight treats it as insufficient. I had to purchase the highest power external USB hub and have only this five terabyte drive plugged into it, and still it barely crawls by.Fourth, I've replaced the factory USB cable with three other cables. None have made the difference. These drives are garbage and Western digital should be ashamed for selling them.I've used floppy disk drives that have faster read and write times, and this is coming from a certified network administrator. Trust me, go for any other brand other than Western digital.

Have bought a few of theses. Great product

Lasts better than other WD
So I have bought lots of different WD hard drives over the past 10 years. This particular version seems to last the longest before corrupting. There are other versions, which I will leave reviews for that didn’t even last a month! This is version the only person I buy.

Great storage capacity
One of my children is a musician and I filled my hard drive to capacity with photos and videos going back to 5th grade. This took care of everything.
